Title: Navionics Hotmaps coverage for overlays
Post by: Mad Angler on December 24, 2020, 04:08:24 PM
Hey all, new guy here with a new Helix 7, also a new guy to the Humminbird brand! Bought the chirp mega si g3n to tie into my Minn Kota Terrova and am working out a few small issues with this setup, but so far diggin' the new electronics.

Been searching for info on the Navionics map cards for my Helix 7, seems that the Hotmaps Platinum card doesn't cover much of anything in terms of sat or shading overlays in my area (Southern Idaho). The main maps are okay and much better than the lakemaster card I initially bought with the Helix, but the main reason for purchasing another card was for those satellite overlays. After hours of messing with settings, I find out that there's only two spots in Idaho that have overlays at all, and they're on the other side of the state where I doubt I'll ever fish.

Has anyone been able to add sat overlays onto the sdcard, I'm hoping someone has a bit of info or experience with maybe some sort of tool out there to create and pack overlays that can be appended to the Navionics card. I've found some info that's in Russian about doing something like this, but translating web pages isn't giving me any specific info.

I'm a bit annoyed that Navionics would release a $200.00 sdcard, touting its ability to include sat imagery for an inland water product (Hotmaps), yet only a handful of areas have this feature. It looks fantastic in the places that does have overlay coverage (Columbia River in Oregon is great and I'll use it come Fall for salmon!), I just don't understand why they didn't include more areas, especially places that are quite popular for fishing-at least in Idaho!
