Title: Helix 12 Mega CHIRP - Split Sonar View - No Left (83 kHz) Display?
Post by: RivRunR on April 11, 2017, 11:09:06 AM
This is probably a stupid, menu-related question, but the Split Sonar View on my Helix 12 Mega doesn't display any returns on the left (83kHz) side of the screen.  It's completely blank except for "Medium" as the frequency display.  All other views seem to work fine.
The 2D transducer is a XP-9-20 Puck with a MSIDB-Y Y-Cable.

Thx,

Check to see if there is an update in your account .... if not give Humminbird a call.

There is an update, but it doesn't mention anything about Split Sonar as one of the fixes.

I did finally find this in the manual (p. 42): 2D CHIRP Display Frequency- "If High Frequency is selected, the medium frequency beam is not available."

So, since I had selected High Frequency, and the left side in Split Sonar says Medium frequency, then perhaps that's why it's not showing up?

When I flipped the frequency from High to Medium/High during playback nothing changed but, if "the medium frequency was not available" during recording, I'm guessing that I'll have to put it back in the water to test that theory.

I'd go ahead and do the update ..... can't help with the setting since I don't have a chirp unit.

You mention "during playback"  ...

Are you playing a recording back on the unit  ...??

Are you playing the Simulator recording  ...??

I'm playing a recording on the unit (not the Simulator).  At the time of the recording, the 2D CHIRP frequency was set to High.

If you recorded with the frequency set on high - then the 83kHz (or Medium in CHIRP) would not have recorded to the SON files  ...

I record on my 1197 with the 83kHz shut off simply to make the recording files smaller  ...

If you want the 83kHz (or Medium in CHIRP) to be available in a recording playback - it will have to be enabled before starting the recording process...

Thanks Rickie, I appreciate the explanation!
