There are some things you can do to maximize Side Imaging and Down Imaging; Key is adjusting the screen speed to the boat's speed and that is between 0.5 to 5.0 mph. Also adjusting the sensitivities.
I would recommend that you review Doug Vahrenberg's video seminar which is 9 parts. There are several other videos which are worth a watch. I have watched them several times, you need to watch the seminar at least one time. This will give you an insight on how to get the most out of your unit. Doug's seminar is with an 1197 but it basically covers all of the units. I have purchased 2 other training videos and they did not come close to what Doug is showing us.

Here is another site that will help with Humminbird SI use for fishing.
Scroll down the page and on the left side is a FREE webinar.
It's an hour long and after about a 10 minute intro Jason has some interesting stuff.
