Help shared transducers
« on: April 19, 2014, 12:10:38 PM »
Have a 798HDSI on console with  788ciHD on bow linked with ethernet, also have I pilot.  Am disappointed that the 788 will not share 998 stern transducer with SI  so........am planning on returning the 788 to dealer and also upgrade to Ipilot LINK.  I plan on mounting 798ciHDSI to the bow and linking the three units with the 5 port Ethernet.  798 will be connected to Terrova internal transducer but if my reading on this forum is correct I should be able to select the transom mounted SI transducer for times when the terrova is stowed.  Is this correct  ??

If the dealer wont accept return of 788 (put on last fall and not used) am considering mounting it on console beside 998 for navigation while 998 displays SI, can all three units share the one transom transducer if I go this route ??

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Kevin.

If the bow mounted 798ci HD Si is Ethernet connected to the 998 unit that has a stern mounted HDSi transducer, then yes it should be able to display the 200/83kHz 2D and 455kHz Si/Di sonar from the HDSi transducer.

If all three (non-DI model) units are Ethernet connected, they should be able to share the same transducer, even if it is the 998's stern mounted HDSi transducer.

Thanks for responding Greg.  I have been experimenting with my current set-up which is  788ciHD on bow Ethernet directly to 998HDSI on console.  I am able to share temperature from each transducer and share  GPS from each unit but cannot get the Universal Sonar in my Terrova that is connected to the 788ciHD on bow to display in the 998 on console, even on the 2D screen.  (under networking it is not shown as available)

When I look in the Humminbird Ethernet manual it shows a picture and states that the Universal sonar in Terrova only transmits to the 788 and the side imaging sonar  on transom only transmits to the 998,  The picture shows my exact combination and states this clearly.  Yet I read that when you link hummingbird units you should be able to share compatible sonar.   Understand  SI transducer can only report to SI unit, but thought  2D should be able to report to 998 ??

I guess the question now becomes if I link the 788 and 998 via Ethernet switch will this change?
Since writing the original question I am now considering simply adding another 788HD to the console to display navigation, freeing up the 998 for SI, will I be able to get the Terrova Universal to display on the console 788, naturally the transom SI will not display on the 788.  Or should I spend the extra dollars and go with 798HDSI.  My thoughts are the 798 is pretty small screen for SI anyway ???

Definitely adding the Ipilot Link and definitely want this available on three units.  788bow with 788 798console  or alternatively  788bow & 798 998  console whichever route I go.

Kevin,
Adding the Ethernet Switch will not change things.  I’m checking with someone on sharing the 2D sonar data from the Universal Sonar.  I didn’t think it that it mattered where the sonar data came from.

What setting are you using on the 788ci HD unit for the Transducer Select menu?

What software version are you running in each unit?

Why are you wanting the Universal Sonar data at your console unit?

Right, the transom Si sonar data will not display on the 788ci HD you put at the console but the 2D sonar data from that transducer should.

Greg thanks for your help again.  Problem solved when I updated the software.  With the two units ethernetted I can access the transducer/temp/gps/ on each at my call !!      Naturally the 788 only displays regular sonar from the side scan transducer.........and the 998 will display 2d from Terrova  if selected........everything now working together and am now comfortable in proceeding with LINK upgrade  and additional 788.  Having used I pilot I am excited about moving up to LINK with its extra capabilities.    Thanks again.  Don't normally ask for help until I have read everything in the manuals and on this site but I must  admit my eyes were very tired with no results until you mentioned software version !!
Kindest regards,
Kevin
