New version is causing problems
« on: April 17, 2016, 01:06:17 PM »
Just installed version 7.66 on my 858c DI, now I am experiencing the following problems.
-unit turns off sometimes for no reason
-Cannot turn On unless I disconnect from Battery
-Sometimes screen freezes during startup on Loading.... screen.

Is it possible to go back to my previous version? Or will this screw things up more?
Are there previous versions available? Found one version on this site but no details about it.
Thanks

I haven't seen any problems like that cause by a software update .... Are you sure you haven't developed a power problem?

i guess it possibly could be related to  power problem. I was out today for a test run and it worked great for a half hour then just shut off for no reason and would not turn back on right away. It did eventually turn back on after about 10 minutes. Same thing happen again after about 20 minutes, wait about 10 and it will come back on after hitting the power button.  I cannot figure out what is going on.

Do you know what the voltage on the unit displayed while it was working?

Yes, it was running 13 - 14 volts. Was trolling with big motor.

If you reset defaults after the update and the voltage is good ..... better give Humminbird a call.

I changed the wire connections to a different area on the fuse panel.  Last time out everything worked great! Hopefully it was just a bad connection.

You have discovered the reason it is recommended to run a power wire direct to the battery with an inline space type fuse at the battery..... Using the boat fuse panel often causes problems with the electronics.

It is still a good idea to run a wire direct to the battery.  I personally would use 12 gauge twisted pair wire.
