858c and Navionics Chip
« on: April 01, 2011, 07:58:36 AM »
Hello, this is my 1st post since becoming a member.
My question is: I borrowed a Navionics premium chip from a friend and could not get the map of the lake I was on show up with any detail on my 858c. Each time I zoomed in it would show as "over-zoomed". The chip is a couple of years old and did see on the Navionics site that the lake I was on is listed as a high-def map. Any ideas on what the problem could be??
Also, Is there a way to look at the maps that are on the chip while at home and not at the lake?

I would like to thank all the members on the site for always being helpful and super informative!!

My guess as to what is going on is that the older map card that you used does not have that lake in the HD format.  What lake are we talking about here (will need the state as well) and what year map card is it?

There is some software that you can buy from Navionics or Fugawi (not sure about the spelling of that last one) that allows you to view the map cards on your computer.

Greg-Thanks for the quick reply. When I went to look at the date of the chip I found the problem. The chip is for the southern lakes and I was on a lake that is on the eastern lakes chip. I assumed my buddy had given me a chip to use for the lakes around home not the lakes we travel to and fish a couple of times a year. Being new to all this I am sure I will have many more questions.

Thanks again!
