Topic: 1197 falls into Lake by Accident! Oops!

Ok, looks like Doug made a boo boo filming one of his videos today!  Apparently his 1197 needed bath and he felt the lake was the best place to do it!

Now, I must say, it looks to me like he chucked the thing in the water!  I can tell you my reaction would have been a lot more dramatic!  Well, I think it was just to prove a point!  Funny how we had this discussion the other day!  The Humminbird units ARE designed to float and are waterproof!  I just have never thrown mine in the river to test it!  Way to go Doug!

Doug says he didn't!  He wouldn't lie to us, but he sure kept his cool didn't he!

Great proof though that Humminbird units are waterproof and float!  Testament to great engineering!

I think I was more in shock seeing my 1197c  3 foot under water. If you look when I was plugging cords in I was shaking a little still. I did have to do a little editing and voice over to cut the "blessings" out...but if it was staged I would for sure not have left my Navionics Platinum Card and Blank SD Card with tons of images and recordings in the unit.

Humminbird says they design the head units to float and be waterproof....Well all I can say is YES. 1197c still working like a champ 24 Hours after it was Baptized. Amazing a 12 Pound Unit can float! Hope no one else has to experience this but it's nice peace-of-mind knowing that it will come back to the surface if the head unit goes overboard.

Are the cards slots waterproof somehow...or just the flimsy door that covers them....??

my 997,has been rain on pritty good a few times.still clicking right on.dont think that  im going to chuck  it over  though.

The Card Reader Door has a seal to keep water out. I am now told if the door is open it could damage the card readers but not the rest of the unit; water is not suppose to be able to get from the card reader slots into the internal circuitry of the unit. If you look at the video clip close there is a couple drops around the quarter turn screw but nothing got past the yellow door seal. Thank goodness because my Navionics Premium and SD Card were inside.

I was highly impressed. I just fired up the unit again and it's still working flawless.
