Hi
Do I need to have two Identical transducers when using AS SILR Y Cable Image Splitter ?
I have a wooden boat with a keel and planning an installation with one sensors on each side of the keel 797C2 Si . as picture.
- I have a XNT-9-SI-180-T (455khz) and planning to use this on one one and either XPTH 9 HDSI 180 T or XHS 9 HDSI 180 T on the other side of the keel.
- Will it give me a problem not having Identical "matched" transducers on both sides ? ( I realise 800khz can not be utilized )

- Is there a need for a minimum distance between Hull and transducer.

Eksnipan,
Welcome to the forum. Since you only have a 798c, why not get another compact SI transdcuer vs the HDSI. You will get better results with dual matching transducers.
I cannot think of any benefit in going with the other HDSI transducers unless you are planning to upgrade to a 800 series or higher unit. If so, I would just go ahead and sell the compact SI transducer and get two matching HDSI.
Good Luck,

Thanks For the answer.
But I still don't understand what the differens in performance is ?
If using
XPTH 9 HDSI 180 T "Plastic Thru Hull" on one side and
XNT 9 SI 180 T on the other side.
( As similar location as possible using 797C2 SI 455khz )
- What will the visible difference be regarding side imaging ?
Senitivity, gain, angels, resolution etc ?
- Is there a Differens in performance regarding normal sonar 83khz / 200khz ?
If they don't perform identical on 455khz, maybe the SI shall be replaced with HDSI anyway? Independant if using one or dual installation ?
( I Saw that there was a recomended minimum distance to hull of 1/8" in XPTH 9 HDSI 180 T manual. )

The only differences will be in the 455kHz Si sonar and possibly in the way the water flows over and around the transducer but that is due to the shape and not what's inside. The XPTH is larger and contains longer Si elements which allow for better resolution in the 455kHz sonar. Now with the 797 or 798 not everyone can see this difference. With the larger display Si units almost everyone can see the difference. If you look at the recorded sonar or images from the 797 or 798 units on a computer than you should also be able to see the difference.

Thanks for the reply Greg. I was looking for some pictures from George. I think he has a similar setup with two different transducers. One HDSI and one compact SI. It is a very noticeable difference on the larger displays!

Robert,
I know that Soretoe (Lou) has this setup but last time I checked he did not have any good images to post that showed the Si sonar.

I have several pics but have not had time to do anything with them lately. I belong to the Patriot Guard Riders and we have been covered up with Veteran and KIA funerals lately. Tomorrow will be my last mission for a while and maybe I can get some work done on posting my pics.
