I use a 2-point waypoint management system ...
*Point 1 is what media did I use to create the waypoint (HB unit, Humviewer, OziExplorer)...
*Point 2 is the verified type of structure at that waypoint....
*Point 1 is used as a numeric/letter base system to where I know which media (medium?) the original waypoint was marked so that if I ever need to edit that exact point, I know where to locate the original for editing also....
Example 1....if the waypoint was created on the HB unit, then any waypoint editing needs to take place in the HB unit itself...as well as HBPC....
Example 2...if the waypoint was created in Humviewer, then any waypoint editing needs to take place on the HB unit itself, HBPC, and in Humviewer....
Example 3...if the waypoint was created in OziExplorer, then any waypoint editing needs to take place on the HB unit itself, HBPC, and in OziExplorer....
My personal designations are like..:
WP0001, WP0002, etc = waypoint marked in the HB unit...
R10001, R20002, etc = waypoints marked in the Humviewer program (R0001, R0002, etc is the sequential assignment number the HB unit assigns to the current recording-I shorten this some by removing the zeros to "R1, R2 then add sequential waypoint numbers made in that particular recording...)
OZ0001, OZ0002, etc = waypoints marked in the OziExplorer program
*Point 2 is a letter designation system that tells what type of structure that waypoint is (if I have actually verified the structure)..
My personal designations are like..:
s = stakebed
b = brush
r = rocklike
p = underwater pond or sinkhole
f = house foundation
u = unknown
So then what this does for me is ...when I'm fishing and I see a marked waypoint on my chart labeled like R1001b...:
- "R1 represents the HB unit assigned recording designation (shortened) being viewed in Humviewer when I created the waypoint...
- "001" represents the 1st waypoint I created in that particular HV recording...
- "b" represents the structure is a brushpile....
If that waypoint name is labeled OZ001f...
-"OZ" represents that waypoint was created in The OziExplorer program....
-"001" represents the sequential number of the waypoint...
-"f" represents that structure is a house or building foundation...
I am OCD....can you tell...? ?
Rickie
PS... I have learned from experience that when the HB unit labels a waypoint as 001, then I create and import a waypoint from Humviewer labeled 001, then I create and import a waypoint from OziExplorer labeled 001.....................
My unit doesn't play nice.....with duplicate labeled waypoints......
