Title: HBPC never sees my mSD card
Post by: tambrose76 on March 29, 2020, 04:56:21 PM
Exported files from Helix, microSD to adapter to USB2.0 port on PC, PC sees SD, HBPC Open to find SD, get warning for HW to GPX convert, GPX shows up just fine under tab with PC picture. Never have I seen the SD left tab icon, same card installed, diff card installed, each with b/u Helix data same, PC still sees mSD card, no workie second adapter, either. Ouch.

Forget trying to Export to the mSD card after all the manipulations of waypoints.

Latest HBPC this date. Why can I never see the mSD card but the program pulls the data off of it just fine? Other USB ports same.

Plus, just tried again, SD card in first, then HBPC, no joy.
HBPC before or after SD card (which is a mSD in an adapter, two diff adapters tried), never see the SD icon left screen.
I can OPEN from the card within HBPC, however, and see GPX files and the Matrix folder.

Look in the Edit/Preference Menu at the top left of HBPC and see if there may be a setting that causes your issue  ... (I’m not in front of PC right now to check)  ...

Good call, though that is also fine as it should be set to save gpx files.

I’ve never seen the “HW to GPX” warning you mention in the OP  ...

Can you get a ScreenShot of that warning and post here  ...??

Aye. I see nothing in the Matrix folder unless I select HW* elective to Open, then this conversion scheme. Not a problem, I am chasing the reason I never see the mSD card icon from which to import and export....

Yes I understand the SD Card icon is never populating in the left pane of HBPC  ... but the GPX file is populating next to the PC icon  ... and I also don’t understand why  ...

HBPC is supposed to recognize any SD Card that contains a “MATRIX” folder that includes HW or HWT files inside that MATRIX folder  ...

I know you have tried more than one SD Card and SD Card adapter  ...

Is it possible you can obtain a Sandisk brand SD Card with adapter and try once more  ... ??

I started up HBPC and then inserted a SanDisk Ultra Plus 128GB microSD card in a SD card adapter into a USB port and the microsSD card was shown on HBPC even though there was not a Matrix folder on the card. Once I ejected the microSD card it was no longer shown in HBPC. In my case the microSD card drive letter assigned is G.

[attach=1]

If I were to write to the microSD card then the Matrix folder would be created and the files written to that folder.

I then tried using a Samsung Evo 64GB microSD card that did have a Matrix folder and the same results occurred as the first test including when the card was ejected.

I also tried a Kingston 1GB microsSD card that did not have a Matrix folder and the same results occurred for this 3rd test as the previous 2 tests.

Finally I inserted a generic USB thumb drive and HBPC also showed that thumb drive the same as when microSD cards were inserted and removed.

Questions:

What drive letter is being assigned to the SD card inserted?

Have you tried uninstalling HBPC, rebooting and then reinstalling HBPC?

Alrighty then, I dug into Control Panel and found 3 diff versions of HBPC (ain't I dedicated), killing them all off toward a clean Install of the 2020. Two diff card reader chassis, cheap mSD card and even Sandisk mSD 32Mb in its orig carrier. PC always sees the cards as a drive. Load before or after software startup. Never see the card. Always able to burrow into Open and find the Matrix HWR file. Never an Icon, even when using diff usb ports front or back of PC.  Drive letter usually G unless I assigned the card its own [Z:] name. Gonna try a laptop, and then handgun.

Thx for help here, incl. ... Rickie.

THIS IS A PC PROBLEM READING THE USB.

Acer laptop loads HBPC2020 fine.
good   SD adapter chassis allows either SanDisk or cheapy mSD cards to be read
good   cards read in either usb 2.0 or 3.0 ports, even as chassis adapter is made for 3.0
good   either mSD instantly seen by HBPC software as icons for PC and SD card, in either port

Guess I can use that newly ordered 32Mb Ultra SanDisk card on my 898 and scan every bit of water in my locale.

Gunshots heard, just cleaning the dust out of the big PC and patting the laptop on the keyboard.... Thx.

Yep I mis-spoke  ... HBPC should see any external drive connected to the PC USB port  ...
