Here is a GOOD ONE for u to answer!
« on: August 07, 2010, 04:11:41 PM »
I have a 997c si on a ram mount at the steering wheel and a 797c si at the trolling motor.  The 997 was not changing the depth on the sonar view to the deeper ranges and the depth on the top left remained at 4.2 feet.  I could manually change the lower depth and see the bottom after 10 feet.  The side imaging was not working either.
I sent the unit in for repair and got it back today.  I put it on my boat and took it to the river.  The people at humminbird updated the unit for me and the side imaging is working.  The depth was still showing 4.2 feet in 17 feet of water and had to manually set the lower range to see bottom.
I was traveling down river and when I turned my steering wheel everything started working right!!!!  I changed to lower range back to auto and everything was fine.
I went further down the river and turned into some waves... the sonar view went back to 4.2 feet and I had to change the lower range deeper manually.
I am taking my boat back to the shop to see if they know what to do...
Any ideas anyone?

Post a picture of your transom transducer mount.

won't be that...had my 797c mounted in the same holes... 797c worked flawlessly...
I will add that I have two transducers on the 997c with a Y cable.  Took the A/B switch off and tried the unit thinking the switch was bad...

How fast were you going when this happened?

How is your slow speed readings with SI and 2d?

Please tell me exactly how your units are configured.  Y cables, switches, interlink, etc.  What type of boat and how are transducers mounted?

A picture of the Transducer/Transom area may help us see whats going on.

Thanks,

Robert
