Title: Navionics Platinum
Post by: AfterTithes on April 06, 2010, 03:46:54 PM
Hey all,  I am new to this forum and need some assistance. I have a 798c SI, it works great.

However, I was out with a buddy the other day and he had his 6 year old Lowrance hand held unit with him. We trolled up to a reef that his handheld showed, but my 798 did not.

I have the Gold + NVB that was installed at the factory. Any one have a thought on this? Also, I see that the Plat. is not compatible with the 798 is this correct? Thanks, A.T.

A.T.,
Sounds like the maps in the handheld unit are more accurate in that location then the built-in maps in the 798 are.  Is this an inland lake or were you on one of the Great Lakes or on the coast?

No the Platinum maps will not function fully in the 798 units.  The Premium maps will though.

Sorry, we were actually in the Gulf. I'm in Florida and use my 798 strictly for salt water fishing. I was being "encouraged" to go with the Lowrance, but I chose the Humminbird due to it's capabilities.

A.T.,
I would look at the Marine Charts offered by Navionics but make sure that the area you fish is covered.  Not all of their Marine Charts cover very far off-shore.

What mapping software is in your buddy's Lowrance hand held?
Lowrance units read other than Navionics software also.
