The 798 will be compatable with pretty much all the Humminbird GPS models, but the  AS GRP and heading sensor models are software revision dependent.

I think it is compatible with any Humminbird unit that accepts external GPS .... and has greater than 6.57 software release.

Bob is correct ... You will need at least 6.570 to recognize the AS GPS HS antenna ...

The AS GPS HS antenna has an internal magnetic compass that will show the boat's orientation (which way the bow is pointing) on the chart view at all times ...even while stationary ...

Here is my write up ...

What speed are you looking for? Are you meaning a maximum sample rate? I think the "HS" may be capable of a higher rate but the unit has to be able to compute those samples faster to make use of it. I doubt you will be able to get better performance than your GRP. The Heading sensor (digital compass) will keep your boat icon pointed at slow speeds with less lag than just the GPS heading. That is the only advantage you will get. It is your $130 you will have to decide if it is worth it to you and your fishing style. Bob
