Title: Platinum ID 600 ?????
Post by: dapapers1 on July 13, 2009, 10:51:04 PM
Hello guys when I got the boat it had an old Hummingbird Platinum ID 600, I am looking to upgrade to a new unit with color etc. I was wondering if anyone out there has done this before using the old cabling or do I have to run new ones. Is there any type of adapter or conector that can be changed to use the current wiring for a new model or a newer unit that will plug into the current wiring and work fine. I am seeking the help of you guys, and any help will be appreciated thanks

I would say you would want to upgrade your wiring for the new unit.

Just put a pull string on the old cable, pull it through, and then you just pull your new cable back through with the string.

I would not take any chances.  Why spend the money on a new unit and not do it right.

Platinum ID 600?  Let’s see the power cable will work (depending on which unit you go to the wire gauge may not be big enough) but I would consider replacing it as the connections are old and could be loose or corroded by now.  The transducer could be used with an AD-629 adapter since the Platinum ID 600 was the 200kHz version of this model unit.  You would limit yourself to the 200kHz frequency only (could not use the wider 83kHz frequency) though and the adapter lists for $25 (plus shipping and handling) plus the unit you buy should come with a transducer.  I would just pull out all of the Platinum ID 600’s cables and mounts and install all new stuff.
