597C DI or 788C DI On new boat
« on: February 27, 2012, 08:41:27 AM »
I am buying my first boat. 2012 Lowe FM 175. I will be fishing here in MN. Sometimes on bigger water like Mill Lacs and some river fishing on the St. croix and Mississippi. My counsel unit will be a 1198C SI. The price difference between the two units is only $150. So price is not an issue. Would the 788 be the better way to go. The features are somewhat vague on the HB website. With the 788 i could ethernet it to the 1198. What kind of an advantage would this be for me? I appreciate the opinions from you experts.

With the 788 you could link you unit to your 1198 and be able to share waypoints between the two.  Because they use two different sonar technologies you can not share sonar between screens.

I am assuming that the second unit is for a trolling motor.

If it was me I would purchase the 788ci HD DI Combo, it also has a chart program which you may find valuable if you find a specific area that you want to stay in when running a trolling motor.
