What gauge wire for 859
« on: September 02, 2015, 02:51:56 PM »
What gauge wire should I run directly to my battery for an 859 unit. It will be about 20' of wire to g from bow to transom. My unit is showing mower voltage than my console 899 and it shuts down once in a while - is wired into the bow lighting wire. I think directly wiring it to battery will fix that.

HB would recommend 14 ... 12 is better ... I used 10 ...

20' of 14awg @ 0.48/ft =   $9.60
20' of 10awg @ 1.01/ft = $20.20

I feel $10.60 extra for the entire 20ft run to the battery is cheap insurance in never having to worry if I used too small a wire ...
