Helix problems after 1.90 software update
« on: April 26, 2019, 02:15:42 PM »
I have 3 helix units, 1- gen 1 and 2- gen 2 models, networked together with 360 imaging. After recently updating software to ver 1.90, a problem occurs with all 3 units.  If I open a 360 view on a unit, it freezes all sonar screens on that unit, except 360 imaging. I must reboot the unit to recover the sonar function back to normal, but it will freeze again if I select a 360 view on a unit. It only freezes on the unit that I use to display 360. Also, I no longer am able to display heading sensor readings on the digital readout. The heading box will be there, but only dashes will populate the box.  I have been in touch with customer service, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. It seems like a software problem to me, but HB doesn't seem to have heard of this before.

I'm assuming you Restore Defaults after the update  ...
-----

You might try completely disconnecting the ethernet from all units and test the 360 directly connected to each unit separately to see if the issue may be with one specific unit  ...

I don't t have 360 so I don't know about that problem but i have the same problem with heading.  Called Humminbird and they sent me me up date 1.64 to revert to.  Haven't tried it though as i dont want to give up the fix for the problems with depth readings. Hope this helps.

Also forgot  to mention the email they sent me with the old update was on April 8th after they took a day or 2 to investigate on their own so  seems like BS if they are saying they have never heard of this problem before.

Yesterday I reverted the software back to 1.83 on my Helix 12 Chirp Si unit to test my theory that software is the cause of my issues. Both problems went away with the old version back in place. The 360 no longer disables the other sonar signals, and the heading sensor displays the digital value in the box as it should. By the way, before reverting the software, I did test with a unit directly connected to the 360 without the network, and the problems were still there. I hope they fix this with an update, because I liked the other fixes that are in ver. 1.9. Its hard to believe that I am the first to notice this problem.  Maybe not that many people run 360 like me on a Helix. It was obvious the first trip out with the 1.9 software. At first I thought it might be a feature update to turn off sonar when 360 was active, but when I could not get sonar back without rebooting, I knew it was wrong.
Thanks for your input.

There are many reports of issues with the new versions over on the HB forums at bass boat central  ...

Did HB provide you with a fix.  I am currently experiencing the same issue.

Same her  Gen 1 Helix9 DI at bow, Gen 1 Helix 9 SI KVD at console..... updated both from 1.460 to 1.90 locked up with a reading of 1.9 depth....   Had a copy of 1.460 for SI unit but not the DI unit.....   SI unit reads great but the DI unit still locks up at 1.9 feet.  Both units worked great in two day before update next time out problems show up and the only change was the update.    Looking for a DI copy for a Helix 9 Di/GPS 1.460, just not this 1.90...Thanks

Have been using 1.9 on Gen1 Helix 10/12 SI models without problems except on rare occasions in shallow water and can be solved by adjusting the Max Depth setting closer to actual depth.  The DI models seemed to have more of a problem with depth based on reports in the forum maybe because of frequency.  Have you tried adjusting Max Depth setting?
