SG,  I'm in the same boat as you. Same spec motor in a riptide st.  I guess you can only get them if you have a fishing show.

 Thanks guys

I'm just getting itchy wanting to get everything mounted and tested for RF noise and everything else, plus as soon as I can get these items installed I'm off to Ky and Tenn for a month fishin

again thank you all

BBG Marine had one about a week ago!  I was looking only for the link, since I already had the TM I Didn't need it.

It's being reported that Humminbird has found the problem with the 6.57 software and is about to release a fix.......I think they will get it right soon.

It should not be too hard to fix.  The biggest part is having them test the code before it goes out to us..
But at least is was important for them to make the fix..

So is it being suggested that the release of the MK i-pilot links are being delayed due to the software glitch from HB?

Wouldn't it be nice if the HB web site kept us informed with this kind of information...
There is a FAQ section but it is not always up to date.
I agree that the site should have an important message area to keep us updated on issues especially with code..

Yeah, I don't mind having my money held if I know it's coming next week, but if it's out longer than that, I think I'll cancel and let them get the bugs worked out...

I just got an e-mail from the dealer I made my order with, the Minnkota TM with ipikot*link is deleayed until 2/7/2013

also I talked to a minnkota service agent he said they are workin multi shifts to get us our orders as fast as possible

they were unaware as to how well this product was going to sell and hence were unprepared for the volume of orders

 :( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

That's not too bad....  I can wait that long. I'm just glad to hear that they are moving them....

Update... I just got notice that I'm a day behind you.  And another good thing is that they won't charge me until it ships!  (I sure hope the money is still there when it does :) )

New update on my ipilot*link trolling motor, wont ship till march 7th 2013 ........... WTF ?? JOI

This is not very good pr work in my eyes, they ( JOI ) have been bragging about all this new gear ( 360, ipilot*link, the heading sensor gps puck ) and then not be ready for sales to take place when they say so is sad

Maybe my $6000 should have went to motorguide and lowrance

I have a regular contact person in a local fishing store here in Alberta Canada, who says he spoke to the Minn Kotta buyer for their company who, in turn, spoke to Minn Kota. This was yesterday.

He said mid-Feb to have them here and on the shelf ....... he also said he is not getting the full quantity he requested as the product is in high demand and they are allocating them until production catches up to demand.

I guess we will see if that's the case soon enough. I'm hoping he's correct.

Hello everyone.  I found the I-pilot link was in stock at basspro.com so decided to order and see if it would go into backorder.  That was last night.  I got the shipping confirmation at 2pm today and I have a tracking number now.  It's the module, not the complete motor, but that's what I needed since I already have a 101 Terrova.  Will let you guys know how it goes.

Tracking said Tuesday but I just got home and it's here!  The remote is lots bigger than the regular one for sure!

Tested update 6.6 on the water today and couldn't find any problems with it.  Images are much better also, but won't be able to tell all the way until I install it tomorrow or Tuesday (depending on work).

Did you put the update 6.6 on the 998 or the 1198 or both?

Upgraded to 6.6 on both 998 and 1198.  Just haven't installed the i pilot link yet.  So on the water the update worked very well and you can see more details on si and di in my opinion.  Once I get all this sorted out with the i pilot link and 360 I will install 6.4 back on one of the finders and then compare side by side on the water.

I had updated my 998 from one code level to the next. My unit did not like it.
It was a level that didn't have problems with the code. As IT GEEK had done, I went back to the previous level and all was well again.
Your statement "Images are much better also" has me thinking. Decisions, decisions.
I don't need the bells and whistles that come with that level, but better images wouldn't hurt.

My units behaved weird off the boat but worked with no hitches once I connected the transducer and was out on the water.  The simulator was freaking out for sure at home.

well the boss lady says to cancel the i-pilot*link system and spend the money on new kichen items ....... double oven and other items

and forbids anymore johnson outdoors products from entering this household, after sleeping on the couch this weekend I have to agree lol

So thanks go out to Johnson Outdoors for your poor bussiness planning  >:(

Sorry to hear it SG, but I certainly understand your situation.  You'll like that double oven,  the doors will be lighter and easier on your trolling motor arm. ;D.  I'm barely holding on to mine as well.  Cabelas just updated my backorder from "backordered expected 2-6"  to "backordered, no date available" , so it's not looking good.   :'(   I ceratainly hope mine doesn't turn into bathroom fixtures.

and good luck with yours sir

I'm going to get on the lowrance/motorguide bandwagon, she's talkin like she wants me to sell all my new stuff now, 1198c SI and my terrova and switch over to MG/Low ff stuff ..... lol

You might be the lucky one out of this deal.  Mine is all over the place with winds above 10mph, has serious problems keeping the spot lock location.  Reacts super slow, then goes all the way up to 10 to catch up, which then puts you in front of the location, then stops to fall back, which makes the boat go sideways, then fires back up and starts all over again.  No fun at all.
Title: Re: ipilot*link
Post by: short grub on February 10, 2013, 11:08:34 AM
 I'm sorry to hear that

This is my reason for being upset with Johnson Outdoors/Minnkota/Humminbird.

Here we spend big money on products that dont work as they should, wether its a software issue or a production delay issue, in an economy that is weak to begin with, to have all of these problems with products is not good for future sales.

I love Hummingird and Minnkota products but I'm alittle leary of spending anymore money on their products, if they cant seem to work out their problems with systems and product QC and production

My money and time are to little and to important to continue supporting them
.

the spot lock acts funky if the wind is too much, gusting, or "turbulent'. I still like it better than throwing my 40# anchor in.

I just got an updated expected ship date of 3/4.  This seems positive since it was just listed as "backordered" since missing the 2/6 ship date.  The c/s rep said I was the first one on the list, so evidently I'm the most patient ;D.  Hopefully this won't be another pretend ship date, and I will have it in time for crappie season..

[attachurl=1]I'm really thinking about getting an ipilot link TM for my pontoon. I have a HB 797 c2. Does anyone know is this finder compatible and capable of doing all the functions the ipilot link TM? Also does any one know what model finder would and still be able to interlink with my 797 c2? Thanks for any suggestions!!!

No the 797c2 unit cannot be connected to an i-Pilot Link.  Minn Kota has a list of compatible units here:

Just got my 80# Terrova installed and it worked fine the first attempt, second about an hour later with the HB hooked up I'm getting "Motor Error".  Batteries fully charged.  Tried turning it off and on and unplugging.  Any ideas?
Title: Re: ipilot*link
Post by: short grub on March 09, 2013, 07:22:50 AM
Mass, you might have to reprogram your remote to the controller head I'm not to sure, you might also check if you are getting Sat lock, good GPS signal

I have a Terrova on also and after I hooked up my I*link I had real bad interference on my locator even with the frog  ??? or whatever that thing is called installed on the power source wires.

didnt have it before I installed i*link, will a ground wire between my TM battery and my crank battery help any ??

I'm sorry that I can't help much, all this new tech stuff............

oh grats to you sir on your new I*Link

Thanks for the encouragement.  I did try to re-learn a few times and it seemed to be accepting it. It made a sound, then right back to "motor error".  Gah!  Taking it back outside now.  Maybe it was just too cold last night in Ohio?

UPDATE:  I'm happy to report all is well.  I guess mine didn't like the cold.

I take that back. It did it again. I'm calling Minnkota now. :(.  Motor Error last night again ended the fishing trip.

Wish me luck.  I've finally got it all installed, it seems to be working on land, and am taking it out in the morning.  Not on a lakemaster charted lake, so it will be more like a regular Ipilot.
Title: Re: ipilot*link
Post by: freezerfiller on March 16, 2013, 06:10:58 PM
Well, since no one wished me luck, of course I had issues...  It took a while to figure out what was going on, but I had terrible interference when the trolling motor was on.  When I disconnected the ethernet cable from the unit, 90% of it went away.  Of course the link doesn't work without the ethernet cable.  I also had issues with the transducer popping up and causing a huge roostertail.  Found that the allen screws were already loose.  I've tightened them down.  If it happens again, it might be time for loctite.

ff did you come up with a fix for the RF noise ?

I have yet to test and see if a wire from neg battery terminal on my TM batteries to neg terminal on crank or locator battery will help.

thanks guys

Post by: freezerfiller on March 17, 2013, 09:32:53 AM
No, I've been reading threads, and  I'm going out right now to try tying the battery grounds together and see if it helps.  I'd say that's the most likely issue due to the voltage difference between the two systems.  It's pretty bad noise.    Udate:  I tied the grounds of the two systems, but there's no way to tell if it works until I can get it in the water.  Screen is just black on land.
Title: Re: ipilot*link
Post by: freezerfiller on March 30, 2013, 10:41:24 PM
OK, I called HB support and they sent a ferrite ring to wrap the transducer cable around.  I grounded the battery terminals together, and no improvement on the interference.  Since it was much easier to wrap the ethernet cable (where I suspected the interference issue to be coming from), that's what I did.  That did the trick, and I have good quality SI while using the TM about 98% noise free.  I would think an additional ferrite ring would finish it off, as the ethernet cable is thicker, and I could only get 3 wraps on it, vs 6 on a td cable.

Let the Humminbird CRC folks know about that Mark.  It may be that we need to get a different ferrite ring for the Ethernet cable or develop a short plug-in cable for it that has these (I’m thinking along the same lines as the choke cables for the InterLink here).

I called both MK and HB customer support to let them know my findings..  HB was grateful for the followup.  MK is sending me a second ring, and I'll try it in both locations to see what works best.  (Correction:  evidently MK called HB and had them send me the second ring, because that's where it came from)
