Setting preferences??
« on: January 01, 2014, 10:50:27 AM »
Hey guys just wondering what types of setting you all are using. I haven't felt like my SI beams have been showing clusters of fish as easily as I would like. I actually did some experimenting on some recordings that I did in the past, and I found some that I haven't really heard from anyone else yet. I fish freshwater, normally at 15-30 ft. deep.  At 455khz I set the sensitivity down to 6, the contrast up to 15, and the next setting is on medium. What are some of you guys configurations.

Rotus

For me SEN normally runs a little higher than 6 unless I'm in really skinny water.  Anywhere from 9-12.  If I get into deeper water (say 30 fow on) I like to switch over to 800.  Contrast I set after I get the SEN where it looks good to me, the contrast then brings out the detail better.  You'll find that sharpness will make the fish show up better but "give and take" comes into play, you lose detail of the bottom a little as far as fuzziness.

If you bring your SEN up some I think you'll start to see what your looking for.  Here are some that show settings and some without  but you'll find your own work best after playing with it.

can you post some shots of what your getting now and then some later after upping the SEN?

Did you say these were in 455?  Also try and bring it in some.  Instead of shooting 240 play with closer ranges.  You'll get better detail of not only whats under the boat but out to the sides as well (at that dept play with 800 and see if it does anything for you).  Those shots look good.  Bringing it in and adjusting the Sen/contrast will really make it stand out.  hope this helps ya out, and come back and post the new shots.  we all learn from each other.

I usually keep sensitivity between 9-12 with sharpness on low.  Keep the range about 3 times your average depth or 4-5 times your depth for larger targets.
