Exporting waypoints from humminbird 898 to 797 unit
« on: November 23, 2012, 10:16:30 AM »
Hi All

Ive just recently purchased a 797c2 SI from my friend and a good friend that he is has given me all the waypoints from his 898  model.
They have been exported from the 898 onto the SD card.
When i put the SD card into my unit 797c2 SI (no data found) appeared on the screen.
I have now put the SD card directly into my PC, opened up the HumminbirdPC file to try and export the data there, Still not found in the matrix folder. (there is a HVR file but cant open it)
Snapshot folder is working fine
All the information/updates from the 898 sounder is visable, shouldnt this page be showing all of my information
Could it be that the Sd card was setup originally for the 898 unit and not the 797

The SD card is not set up for any particular unit.
The data file that the Humminbird unit's read is called DATA.HWR,
in the MATRIX folder.

HumminbirdPC can't read DATA.HWR directly, but must
convert it first to a GPX file.

If HumminbirdPC can't open/convert the DATA.HWR file, it may be
corrupted.  If you double click on the file name (on your SD drive), it
should ask you if you want to convert it to a GPX file.

If all else fails, try exporting the data (from the 898), to a new SD card.
Good Luck.

PS. The 898 model is newer than the 797.
I don't think so, but maybe it's possible, but highly unlikely, that there is some type of format
change with the waypoint files.  Greg would know for sure.

Also, make sure you are running the newest version of HumminbirdPC (version 4.3.8 ).
Also, it's possible that the size and speed of the SD card used in the 898 is not compatible with
your older unit.  You may have to get a slower/smaller card.

I own both 798 and 898 and don't remember having any problem whit exporting nav.data from one unit to an other using a SD card.

You have of course first to save/export all nav.data to SD card.

Ok i had a fiddle again today, I think the file on the SD card may be corrupt
I deleted all the data on the sd card and inserted it into the 797 GPS and exported the co-ordiates onto the card, Then i put it into my PC, opened up the humminbird pc site and exported the waypoints without a hassle.

Now i just have to re-try uploading the waypoints again from the 898 GPS once i see my good friend and see how i go again.
Thanks for the input fellas. ;)

There should be no compatibility problems that I am aware of ITG.

Please let us know how this all turns out Double Trouble.

Hi all,

I have sorted the problem out no worries this time round.

I think the problem intially may have been the SD card that had the original waypoints were from the 898 and when i put the card into the 797 the SD card was still recognising the 898 sounder as the SD card had never been in the 797 before.

I deleted all data on the SD card, loaded it into the 797 and exported the data onto the card no worries and then onto the humminbird pc site.
Last night i went out fishing with my mate with the 898 unit and put my SD card into his unit and exported the waypoints with ease and now have transferred them onto the humminbird pc site without no hassles.

(problem was the SD card had the 898 data on it originally instead of the 797 data for the very first upload as the card was operating from the 898)
Thanks for the help fellas

That should not have made any difference Double Trouble but I am glad that it is all sorted out anyways.
