Title: Exporting track to pc
Post by: JD88 on February 02, 2014, 04:49:05 PM
I have a track on my 598 that I am trying to export to humminbird PC.  I export the file from the unit to an SD card that I know works.  Then when I go to upload it to HPC it loads the file name but none of the waypoints or data that is associated with the track shows up.  I untimately want to convert it to a GPX file to share with a friend.  Any advise on how to do this?

export from unit to the card, then in HBPC you should be able to move it to a new GPX.
the track positions are determined in the settings of the unit ( I believe you can set it for how long in between to take a fix) they are not saved as waypoints rather just track points in the track, but you should still be able to see them.

Right, I can see all that on HBPC when I loaded the track to an sd card and then on to my unit.  The problem is when I go from my unit back to the pc is where it gets lost.

Also how to it turn a .ht file into a gpx on hbpc?  Been searching but I can't find the info anywhere.

HBPC storage-structure is in GPX files.  A HBPC GPX basic file contains:
  The default Waypoints folder
  The default Routes folder
  The default Tracks folder
The Groups folder with the HOME group.

The SD-card will contain a folder called MATRIX:
MATRIX folder "will" contain a file DATA.HWR which holds all waypoints & routes.
MATRIX folder "might" contain files called nnn.HT which each holds  one track.
IE.  If you have 3 tracks, MATRIX will contain 000.ht, 001.ht & 002.ht

When you Select All and Export, then your unit will EXPORT its data creating(or overwriting) the MATRIX folder and all files contained.

HBPC can download the entire MATRIX will all waypoint, routes & tracks and it will create a new GPX file called SD_yymmddx. GPX.

HBPC can upload one of its GPX files onto the SD-card back into the MATRIX folder.  You will be prompted to ADD or REPLACE.  Choose REPLACE to completely delete and overwrite the MATRIX.  ADD is a more complex discussion.

That sort of explains Unit-to-HBPC and HBPC-to-unit.

Now if someone has created & send you just a .HT file, then HBPC can handle that also.

On the HBPC menu-bar select File-->Open or on the HBPC tool-bar click the File-Open icon.  The dialog-box will open:
Under Files of Type you have option to open these file-types:
  GPX  File(*.gpx)
  Humminbird File(*.hwr, *.ht)
  Garmin File(*.gdb, *.mps)
  Lowrance File(*.low, *.usr)
So far a individual HWR or HT file you would choose file of type Humminbird, then navigate to location of your HWR or HT file on your PC or on the SD-card.  HBPC will open this HWR or HT file and convert it to its GPX file which you will see in HBPC.

That's the basics.

Salado has show this in his example, but he has also created and is using GROUP's.

If you simply want to share a HB Track with another HB user.  You can send him the .HT file contained in the MATRIX folder on the SD-card.
Unless you have many HB Tracks, then it's difficult to determine which nnn.HT file is that track.
And WHY HB units store tracks by nnn.ht, and not trackname.ht is totally beyond my understanding.

Use HBPC:
Create a New GPX file, Select File, New, New File which will create a new GPX file PC_yymmddx.gpx.
Copy&Paste your track from its old GPX file into this new GPX file.
Send him this new GPX file.
By default the GPX's are stored in Documents/My_HumminbirdPC/GPX-Files folder on your PC.
