Title: underwater video and recording (atlantis)
Post by: sonar2000 on November 12, 2010, 09:54:16 AM
Is any one using the atlantis u/w camera (the DT system)  ?
If so have you tried to display the output to a computer so that snapshots can be made?
If not atlantis then what system are you using.
We are not looking for the ROV stuff but the drop camera kind.

We are on the trail of a monitoring recording component to mate to a pc. We will post more on this as we discover what can be done.
Meantime if anyone has any ideas let us know.

Chuck,

After I got your link I checked out the Video Grabber.  It sounds like the software is from a different company and does not support the Hardware and vice versa.  The software is the one having the issue with the USB right?  Not the hardware!

Question is, when you plug the USB Video Grabber in, does the computer automatically recognise it, or does it ask for drivers to be installed?

From what I see, you could use other 3rd party Video Capture software that is compatible with the video grabber.

Robert, the software indicates a hardware check that shows the drivers are in the computer.  When we run the setup the software says the drivers are not installed.
the 1st software we used indicated no divice attached.
We are now looking for another softward/hardware combo that is supposed to be working in SC
However the stuff used is not being found as available today.
We are looking for this hardware/software right now.
I will call you later.

OK, we found that Aqua-Vu is releasing a usb converter/recorder for their video out port.  I have ordered one to test with the Atlantis. More later.

Well good news, the AquaVu DVR works great. We spent some time testing and it all works very well.  We did not get a user manual (not published yet) so had to learn the old fashion way and make our own. After we figured out how to operate the DVR we made some test runs. It worked fine. We were able to make video and still shots.  Still shots were easy to get to a computer for editing.  The recordings (video) were fine to record but had computer compatability issues with being able to view. After some soul searching upgrades and code changes we have that working.
When this goes into production it will be a great tool for law enforcement and evidence documentation.
Other camera (u/w) users will find some benefits also.
Our biggest help is we dont have to put divers in the water to see what is below and we can record what is seen.  And much cheaper than an ROV.
