360 is not being recognized by my 998c
« on: August 28, 2015, 06:54:12 PM »
I have the HB 998c and the Terrova w/ I-pilot. I purchased the 360 unit this spring and installed it on my Crestliner Fish Hawk including the 5 port hub. I tested it on my small home lake before taking the boat up North for the season. The 360 worked great on my home lake and up North for the first 2 weekends; then it quit working and a message appeared "360 SONAR SOURCE LOST TURN OFF YES or NO". The unit would go up and down with the toggle on top but the 998 did not recognize it was connected. I performed all the resets from the manual and nothing worked. Contacted HB and they stepped me through every possible troubleshoot and nothing worked. They said it must be a weak battery and advised me to directly connect another battery that is known to be good; even tho the battery was only 2 weeks old and the power lead going into the 360 unit read over 13 volts. Connected another battery with no luck. HB advised me to send the unit back. Great turnaround time (and $150 shipping bill) and re-installed the unit and it worked great; for 2 weeks. Last weekend while trolling; the unit shut off and gave me the same exact message. Contacted HB again and went thru the same troubleshoot process and we're down to trying another battery. HB said if that won't work I'll need to send it back for repair. I asked what they did on the first repair they said they replaced the transducer. I'm frustrated to say the least. I shelled out alot of dough on this unit and do not want to spend another dime on this. Like my Father always said; buy the best; if it works as it should the cost is justified. If it does not; then you've just got a POS. I'm upset although the unit works great for steadying a person in the event of needing to relieve oneself off the back of the boat. Sorry for my rant; just wish it would work.

The first thing that I would try is to connect the 360 directly to your 998.  If it still doesn't work I would check and make sure that your GPS is getting a signal.  If this checks out I would then shut the 998 down and reboot it.  I have sometimes gone as far as doing a factory default on my unit. When you get the unit working I would wiggle all of the cables involved at the connectors and I would also give them a few taps to see if maybe there is a bad connection. What other things are connected to your hub?

I went thru all that with the HB tech. Connected to the hub is the 998 unit; Terrova I pilot and the 360. We are down to connecting a different battery directly to the 360. I'm going to make an unscheduled trip up north next Friday morning for that test. I guess on the bright side even if it don't work; I'll get to go fishing the old fashion way. The 360 unit also makes a great place to hang the dip net while trolling. :(
