Title: 798ci taking a long time update
Post by: craftjl60 on May 22, 2016, 06:06:36 PM
I have a 798C and a 788CI. I am updating the software in both units. The 788CI updated in about less than 2 minutes. The 798CI has been updating with the blinking window for over a hour now. Is this normal or is it in some kind of loop. How long should it take to do the update?

After 2 hours of window blinking, I decided to stop the update. I push the on/off button and it when into ( some kind of mode) and after about 15 min. I power off the unit. Now its window comes up saying loading, then start beeping and has white line at the bottom and along the side. How can I reboot the unit??

Well that length of time is no where near normal .....did you remove the SD card from the unit?

Are you absolutely sure you have pristine power to the unit?

Yes, it has good power. Now when I power it up, it goes into some kind of diagnostic test page and will only come out by removing power from the unit. I have the update from the Humminbird  page for the 798ci SI.

When I turn the unit on, it comes up in a window:
MATRIX SERIES BOOT
VERSION
4.300 JUL 21 2008

0. Keyboard Test
1. LCD Frame test
2. Color Panel Test
3 Tone Check Test
4. Backlight Test
6. A/D Check
9. Program
Z. Reset

Use Cursor (V/D)
  To Select
Press View (V)
  To Start
Press Exit (E)
  To Exit

I went through all the option, nothing fixes the unit.
Call Humminbird, They said the unit needed to be sent to them for repair and it would cost 247.97. WOW, I thought they would send me a reboot SD Card. Was I wrong! The 798C SI is next to my console and I use to get close to where I am going to fish. I use my 788CI on my trolling motor to control where I am going fish. I am retired and on a fixed income. I guess I am going have to wait to get 798C SI fixed.

You try to update a 798 unit with a MATRIX firmware?
