Title: ECW10 extension cable
Post by: sonar2000 on April 30, 2010, 04:36:09 PM
I received our ECW10 cable to extend the transducer.   There was a caution statement to not turn on the unit with only the extension cable in. The transducer must also be plugged in.
Question>>>>>>why this warning.   is there a hazard or something that could hurt the unit?  Would this not be the same as not hooking in the transducer and turning on the unitas we do in demo mode?

It may be that you could short the pins easier.

You shouldn't do this because it creates a choking hazard.

 ;D
Just funning you Chuck - would have liked to seen the look on your face when you read that!

It has something to do with it putting a partial load on the transitter which could lead to arching which will damage the transmitter and possibly receiver.  With the transducer on the unit there is enough of a load that there is no arching.

OK, I quit chokeing.  ..... :o

the extension cable ships with a cap protector so I guess that is in order to be on when the transducer is removed.

Greg...........for units that do not have the extension or when the extension is on I still ask......how does this  effect the unit when you pull the transducer for demo mode?  Or does the 10' cable have impedence that loads the unit differently when the transducer is not attached?

Chuck,
That cap is to keep the pins from getting bent during shipment to us.  It serves no other purpose.

It is because of the partial load on the unit when it is in the Normal operational mode.  When it is in the Simulator (Demonstration) mode the transmitter is not working so there is no danger.

ok, so the 10 foot extender is enough to make the unit think it has a transducer?  Not the actual transducer.  OK. I guess I should not turn it on without the transducer.
Thanks
