What's the difference ?
« on: October 14, 2011, 05:37:58 AM »
I contacted Cabelas to find out the difference between  two items in the on line catalog both listed as798 ci hd si. Message sent.( What is the difference between Item-1K-021526 And item iK-020154 )

This is the answer I received. (Humminbird 798 ci Si HD Side-Imaging Sonar/50-Channel Internal GPS Receiver Combo Sale Price: $799.99 Qty: Item: IK-020154 is the old version of it. Humminbird® 798 ci HD Combo Sonar/GPS Regular Price: $1,049.99 Qty: Item: IK-021526 is the new version)

My question is, what are the differences between the two versions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

This is the description of the new one:
Humminbird® 798 ci HD Combo Sonar/GPS
• New Ethernet port shares sonar and GPS data between two units.
• 5" color TFT display
• 640x640-pixel display
• SwitchFire sonar technology shows amazing details
• DualBeam PLUS™ 20°/60° transducer
• 4,000-watt peak-to-peak maximum power output
• In internal GPS
• Navionics compatible
A new bonded-glass screen provides superior clarity for the high-definition display, making it sunlight readable. In-dash mountable. Dual SD card slots. Three soft-key presets. Made in USA.

This is the description of the old one:
Humminbird 798 ci Si HD Side-Imaging Sonar/50-Channel Internal GPS Receiver Combo
•640V x 640H color TFT display
•20°/60° DualBeam PLUS
•4,000 watts peak-to-peak maximum power output
•50-channel internal GPS Receiver

It looks like the main difference is that the new one has ethernet
and a sunlight readable screen.

If they are advertising a Humminbird 798 ci Si HD Side-Imaging Sonar/50-Channel Internal GPS Receiver Combo, it should be the 2011 version with ethernet....not the 2010 version without ethernet.
There was no HD in the model number for 2010.......sounds like it could be considered false advertising to me.

Yep... I agree... I bet it is the non HD even though it's listed as the HD. Only difference as far as I know is the ethernet capability of the new. Best of luck!

ITG,
I got a different set of descriptions when I used these part numbers on the Cabela’s web site.  I believe (though cannot confirm) that the older one is the 798ci Si model before we added Ethernet capability and added the “HD” designation to the model name.  The more expensive IK-021526 item sounds like the newer “HD” version that does have Ethernet capability.  It would be better if they used a clearer description or at least the manufactures model number so that we could be sure.
