Compatible transducers for 798ciSI
« on: October 23, 2012, 01:07:23 PM »
I use my 798 on my center console and it works great however; I also fish skinny water from a kayak and would like to use the 798 for the charting/gps capabilities along with the basic depth.  It not practical to transfer the transducer each time I take the kayak out and I would like to get one to permenantly mount on the kayak. Is the 798 compatible with any Humminbird transducer?  It appears all of them have the 200hz coil for the depth under the boat.  If so; are all Humminbird transducer pinouts the same except for the number of pins?

I hope I posted this thing correctly and in the right place.

It sounds to me like you want only the 2D sonar wa4zfr.  So you can purchase any of the 200/83kHz DualBeam transducers for this like the:
XNT-9-20-T – transom mount 200/83kHz DualBeam transducer.  This transducer can also be mounted inside of some kayaks using the MHX-XMK hardware.
Some kayaks have a recess built into them for installing the XTH-9-20-P transducer in a scupper hole.

Which transducer did you have in mind?

I'm not sure yet.  I currently have a Eagle Cuda depth finder with the transducer mounted through the scupper hole.  I fashioned the mount myself and would like to repeat the idea, if the bolt mount on the puck is narrow enough to fit inside the scupper hole.  The mount pulls the puck up tight to the kayak and still allows the scupper to work.  Will any brand 200/83 hz transducer work if the wire connections are correct?  This is a project kayak with minimum financing.  The money goes to the center console.  Actually; now that I think about it their both a money pit :)  :(

I don’t know the answer to this wa4zfr.  There may be differences between manufacturers that prevent the adapter transducer from working.  The XNT-9-20-T can be mounted inside of many of the plastic hulled kayaks by using that MHX-XMK kit.

Some additional transducers you may be able to adapt for scupper hole installation:
XI-9-20 (http://store.humminbird.com/products/314001/XI_9_20)
XSO-9-20-T (http://store.humminbird.com/products/313992/XSO_9_20_T)

What would be ideal for me would be a small transom mount like the small Eagle Cuda I currentlly use. (see photo)

I don’t know what size and shape the Eagle transducers are.  My best-guess is that our XNT-9-20-T transducer is the closest you would get to it.
