Title: 987C SI Compatible Transducers
Post by: Consigliere on July 23, 2013, 04:03:51 PM
I am using a 987C SI on a new boat for GPS mapping only right now.  I have a Lowrance finder right now for depth sounding.  The Lowrance came for free with the boat, even though it doesn't have the same features as the 987 it works well for my needs.

Now, with the Navionics+ and SonarCharts upgrades available for Navionics chips, I would like to connect a transducer to the 987C SI so that I can create recordings and improve the map chip I currently am using.  Catch is, the 987C SI factory transducer is installed on my other boat and I don't really want to remove it if I have to.  Are there are any other transducers that are compatible with this unit?  I really only need depth reading out of the unit, don't need any of the imaging capabilities.  I'm thinking we will use the new transducer only temporarily to map out our best fishing spots and then go back to using the 987 for GPS mapping only.

Any thoughts?

Your cheapest route for this would be to buy one of the standard DualBeam 200/83kHz transducers and use it to record the 200kHz sonar.  XNT-9-20-T is the transom mount version, XP-9-20-T is the inside-the-hull mount version.

Thanks for the reply.  Would a single beem 200kHz work?  I already have one that came with a 525 model I purchased 8 or 9 years ago.

I’ll bet that is an XNT-9-20-T transducer that came with your 525 unit.  So, yes it will work.
