Title: Multiple Transducers with Helix 5 SI GPS
Post by: mckeapc67 on June 07, 2017, 09:54:34 AM
I have a Helix 5 SI GPS which is currently mounted with the transducer on the transom and the head unit on my console.

I am considering getting a second transducer to mount on my trolling motor (at the bow) and had a question as to using the same head unit on the console and at the bow of my boat (a bow rider).

Assuming that the power cord for the head unit is long enough, I was wondering if the following process to swap transducers was appropriate and safe for the head unit with the power on:

1)  Go to the menu and turn off the transducer
2)  Unplug transducer cable from back of head unit
3)  Move head unit to new mounting position (while powered on)
4)  Plug in other transducer
5)  Go to the menu and turn on the transducer

The reason that I would like to have the unit stay on is to not lose gps tracking data.

Thanks for any info.

That should work fine  ...

Turning off Sonar shuts off the transmitters so they wouldn't be transmitting to open channels during the time you are switching xducer cables  ...
