2014 Z7
« on: March 01, 2015, 11:16:51 PM »
OK all, new boat so the goal is to measure twice, drill once.  Looking for expert advise on a mounting location, for new boat.  Looked at multiple forums and had a few give advise, but I need to do this right the first time.

Where is the best recommended mounting location for 898 transducer?  Pics below.  THanks for the help

Sponsons and no jackplate by the looks of it.  Hard to tell if it will be low enough without seeing from one side of the transom to the other but the below indicated green box may be your best option.  Of course you will have to install an inside-the-hull XP-9-20 transducer and an AS-Si-DB-Y splitter cable to get depth readings at faster boat speeds as this area will have aerated water above a fast idle.

The sponsons should not pose a visual issue.  THey do not have a down slope to them, if that makes sense.  I ran a level across the bottom to check this.  The bottom of them is at the top of your green box.  In Hull transducer is no big deal, last boat was the same set up.  Do I still want to leave it 1/8 - 1/4 down from that ledge?  The water line is at the black clip you see for the temp sensor.   Location 2 could be an option also, thoughts?  Just want to get it right the first time.

I like location 1 better Nitroman as there will be less chance of picking up some sort of turbulent water on the left side of the HDSi transducer.  You may have to tinker with the height of it though.  You want it low enough to not pick up the sponsons (the left side will be the worse for this because it is farther away from the transducer and the Si beams do project upwards a bit), but not so low that it causes problems with your motor or has a roostertail.
