Help Please!
« on: October 26, 2014, 04:29:29 PM »
I just hooked my 360 to my 898c si  and it worked fine.  I went outside today to mess around a little with the menu for the 360 getting my settings saved and ready for the fall rockfish run.  my unit asked to deploy the 360 unit.  I had the depth set to 10 percent making sure not to hit the ground  which is close to 29 inches away.  I hit deploy and she went right down.  I went into the menu and was adjusting the sweep rate and my 898 said shutting down.  The unit shut down, the 360 retracted my 898 restarted now it shows that the 360 unit is not connected any more.  I tried turning the power off, re connecting the cable ends to make sure they were making good contact and it still says unconnected.  WTH!   I checked the network and one time it shows the as360 and has a check mark beside none and next time their is no network in the menu.

Help!!  I am getting so frustrated with all the bugs I'm getting ready to move on!

Check your code level. there has been past issues with the 360 in this particular area. I seem to recall some code fixes. Power connections and connectors all are always under the microscope with these products.  ..  Chuck

I'm not sure what you mean when you say code level.  Actually I have no idea.

Thanks

Chuck is referring to the software level in all the devices ...

I have no experience in the 360 ... and Greg is out of pocket right now ...

I would call HB    1-800-633-1468

seamonkey,
What software version are you running on your 898c Si unit?
What software version are you running on the 360 Imaging?
Have you checked all power and network connections to both the 898 and the 360 Imaging (including fuse and fuse holders)?
Have you checked the battery that the 360 Imaging is connected to?
Are there any other units/devices on the network?

I was running6. 740 when it happened. So I went back to 6.640. after i did this it started working again.  I then tried up dating to 6.740 again and it works but it takes at least 1 minute to recognize that the 360 is hooked up every time I power up the control head.  As far as the 360 firmware I downloaded the latest version but when I put the SD card in my 898 it won't update. It acts as if the SD card is blank but it's not.  The 360 is plugged directly into the control head and my batteries are good.

Sorry Greg, I didn't give a very good description of my equipment.  I have a transom mounted 360 unit and it is plugged into the either net port on the 898c SI.  That's all I have no piggyback unit or Ipilot.

Sorry seamonkey.  That was all my mistake.  Now I just gotta find who I sent the 360 Imaging information to yesterday…

I would check the power connections for the 360 Imaging accessory as well as make sure that it is completely connected to the 898 unit.

Although there were no listed changes for the 360 Imaging (transom mount) in newer versions of software for the 898, it may be that you will need to update it to the current 7.090 version to get it to work consistently.

If no joy with these suggestions I think you will need to call the Humminbird Customer Service folks.

Thanks Greg, I'll try the new 7.090 and see if that helps.

If you shut off (HIDE) the "Bird's Eye View", does that do anything for your issue?
I have heard of issues with that & the 360.....

I have to check that, I usually hide the birds eye view.  Since I updated my 898 it is back into default mode and I think that makes birds eye view  visible.

Thanks.

It does in default, I can't STAND that view!   >:(
Never use it - and I hope this fixes your issue - let us know how it goes!!

I installed the  7.090 update and the 2.030 update for the as360.  The unit seems to function properly now but still has about a minute to minute and a half lag time for the 898 to recognize the 360 transducer is hooked up.  I have a preset saved for the 360 view and when I hit the preset button before the 898 recognizes the 360 is hooked up, the birds eye view appears.  I set the birds eye view to hidden and the chart appears now.  After a minute or two I get a prompt to deploy the 360 sonar, after the control head recognizes the 360 is connected the preset becomes the 360 view.  I guess the unit is working properly now, I thought once the 360 was connected to the control head that it would know it is their but apparently it has to search and recognize it every start up.  I hope I didn't waste my money on buying this unit.  I have it mounted on my saltwater boat and now I read that wave action degrades the returns that you cant make out what you are looking at.  I hope they are wrong the sole purpose of this was so I wouldn't run over  boat shy rockfish and be able to locate bait fish balls in front of me.

The delay that you are experiencing is likely the network setting itself up, finding and or assigning the IP addresses to communicate.
I often swap or share different sonar beams on my 998 (transom HDSI) and 899 (bow HDSI)- and the HS GPS puck is on the 998c HDSI and it's always shared to the 899ci HDSI so I always start the 998 1st so the 899 finds the HS GPS puck without the 899 attempting to switch to the local internal GPS.
When I am running the 899 is mostly used for 2D/GPS and the 998 is displaying SI/DI off the transom XDCR.
When my trolling motor is in the water I will generally run the 2D on the bow XDCR and sometime switch the DI/SI up front also because I am usually following a contour.
Wave action will degrade nearly any sonar returns, but learning what you see in calm water will soon train the eye to discern what you are seeing with the see saw wiggle of boat pitch.
The deeper below the water line, the less it will be affected of course.
I'm guessing that you're running the transom 360?
I don't own either, but have read up on them a little and maybe someday will add one, but for now I have 3 displays onboard and 3 LakeMaster charts and only 2 eyeballs....lol!
G'Luck!!

Seamonkey, I have the rear mounted 360.ive had it hooked to a 998 and now an onix 10.
The pause of about a minute  to recognize the 360 is normal.
As far as waves making your boat move, that's going to be an issue.i use my 360 mounted to a bass boat.i do use it in, what I consider ruff water and it performs  really well but you don't see very many bass boats in the ocean.

Thanks for all the help and replies. It is much appreciated :)   I have to travel at least 2 hours to get to salt water and it sucks when I get their and something doesn't work right.  That's not a very good way to start a day that you look forward to for weeks.   I just need the weather to cooperate now so I can get out and see how well it works.

Thanks again !
