Have had unit back for almost 2 weeks, did NOT get the same results Alphahawk has going, NOT satisfied I  contacted them last week and I am waiting to hear back - and I told the CSR I would be patient.

I also said the keypad wasn't lit well on the left & the tech said all LEDs were lit, yet it's nothing like my 798,998 or an 898 I returned to vendor B/C it was defective ~ which is how I ended up with the 899.

I think I may be offered an exchange unit - but if it's going to be poorly lit and a crap shoot on the 800KHz - well - I guess it's wait & see right now.
SORRY ~ I don't have before & after shots as I usually am running 3 units - I would network the 899 off the 998 as master & view it's transceiver output plus I use 455Khz a great deal of the time.

Just got my 899 SI installed with an HD xdcr.  I was not expecting to have the washout issue since it has been a known problem.  I assumed a unit bought from humminbird would include the fix but I was wrong.  Any word on if this is definitely a software and hardware issue?  I think it is pretty bad I'm in to this system $1100 bucks and I have to send it back due to a known problem already. This is my first humminbird purchase and not impressed so far.

Call & ask for Sharon , Willette or Deborah in C/S - they should take good care of you if you are not ornery....
I have faith they will try to iron out my issues - I knew up front there was a bug, and it's a hardware fix....
Plus if you DON'T have v7.02 you better get it....

UPDATE:
I still forgot to take screen shots - but after doing a reset, setting up the right transducer (I was networked to another than the connected one) and I did end up having another sent to me - I ended up keeping the one I have as the keypad is lit up mostly on the right side & have found all the new core units to have had the key lights cut back to save costs.
A ran my 800 KHz last Friday with fair results, but didn't see anything worth a snapshot. I also had trouble booting the unit until I removed  the cards. I will have to try a reset and hope that fixes it - but if I have my LakeMaster MI card in the left slot - it won't boot and I have had problems with a 16GB Samsung card in the left slot & the machine locking up on boot.
I am going to format the NAV directories, put another blank card in and hope the map card will work in either side.
Almost 9 yrs. of great HB machines & this one's giving me fits!

When you get your unit back after the repair and have time to test it out please post the results here. Some before and after screen shots wold be nice if it is not to much trouble.

sfw1960, have you had time to test your unit since you got it repaired? Any results good or bad?

Yes I have, one thing I have discovered with the newer machines (and the newer software, like on my 998 v 7.09)  I find it a bit more critical to get things dialed in.
SI machines were never quite "set it, and forget it" IMO anyways.
I have v 7.02 on my 899 and I may ask Greg for a copy of (6.89?) the original installed software to compare on that since I'm pretty sure the 2D was a bit better looking on that and I don't have an i-Pilot Link yet.

The 800KHz fix looks best in Amber1 or Blue where I was using Amber2 before which is quite "hot" compared to those.
I do like the SI better on the newer 7.xx firmware though - but I would like to do more comparison to see what it looks like.
I didn't take many screen shots, fish distract me!
I think, (not sure) I took these in 800 KHz but I was after walleyes in a windstorm....LOL
I would say go ahead; call and ask to send it in for the "800 KHz Repair" if you have an HDSI XDCR.

Keep in mind the 800 KHz is considerably narrower beam coverage, but the washout is pretty much gone after I did a reset & started the setup "new".
Is it "perfect" ? No - but I know of no computers that are - it is much better than it was though.
I use 455 KHz  a great majority of the time, and 800 KHz only when I am trying to image the best detail I can.
I'm unhappy the 899 doesn't have as many LEDs in the key pad as the previous generation, but I guess that comes with price cuts - I fish a lot at night so that's about the only complaint I can say bugs me about the 899.
I did find a bug while in split screen GPS/GPS ~ if you are switching which side of the screen is in use and zoom in and out pretty fast, the machine will suddenly display "shutting down" - but I can replicate that behavior on my 998 also as well as having seen it on another 899.

I just keep the LH GPS screen range around .5 to .25mi. and then do any zooming in/out on the RH side and it seems OK.
Wife just had a major back surgery so I am kinda "stuck" at home caring for her - and next time I get out I will try to change to Amber1 (not 2 like shown) and run the 899 @ 800KHz so I can post images... but I am sure it will be at least a month from the way things are going ......   :(

Rickie, I bet you never heard this one before:
"I have no idea!"

LOL!!!

I saw it, so I snapped it. It might be irrigation lines & a big old pump, but I am only guessing.... I wasn't going swimming for a look either!
I have an AquaVu - I'll be derned if I ever bring it along to verify though....  ::)

Thanks so much for the detailed response to my question. You have been a great help. Sorry to hear about your wife's back surgery and hope she recovers soon. Have a great day.

I recently got my 899 unit back from repair.  Only one short trial with it, but so far so good.  I am pleased and relieved....so far.  More testing needed.   800 KHz seems to working fine on both sides now.

This was my third or fourth return for the problem.  See this thread below on this same subject.  Lots of good technical information and lots of help from forum folks.  Very educational.

For whatever it's worth, I have attached the report that came back with the repair this time.

Yeah - I was wondering with all the space on the paperwork for typing out the details, WHAT does this "jargon" MEAN??
I wish Greg would explain what they actually DID to the unit!

WTH does that mean in plain ENGLISH??  ;D

looks to me that there was either missing or corrupted software or firmware.

Glad to hear that it looks like they found your problem.

I would have to check to be 100% but I would bet it means that the problem was with the L200 inductor which fixed the SI sonar problem (27 being a code that they use for it).

[EDIT: Yup, I was right!]
