798ci si and Minn-kota Terrova
« on: February 28, 2012, 11:05:43 PM »
We just purchased the old school 798ci si (not HD) and are beginning to realize how much your fish finder controls the purchase of your trolling motor. Oops :P

We want to upgrade to a Minn-kota Terrova with iPilot and Autopilot. Will the older 798 (non-HD) work with these applications? And what is US2 and how does it work with 798?

I should mention that we only want one unit in the boat and preferably at the console.

Thank you for any input.

US2 sonar is the standard 2D so you will not get any side imaging or down imaging scans with that transducer.

Thanks LocDown.

I think my real problem is I'm having difficulty envisioning how this technology will be used on the boat.

But I'm slowly figuring it out.

Take for example I want to troll along a creek channel in the middle of a lake. I can sit at the console and view the 798 equipped with lake map and drive that course all while holding the record button on the Minn-kota i-Pilot unit. Once the track is set the trolling motor will take care of the rest.

So what I get so far is these two units (798 and i-Pilot) will be independent. And essentially the US2 will not be used in the trolling motor because there is no plan to put a 2nd unit in the bow.

Slowly getting this stuff . . . . . very slowly.

Please throw out any information chances are it will help this IT illiterate fisherman.

Thanks again.
