Lakemaster chip
« on: July 04, 2014, 06:05:58 PM »
I have a 1197c hummingbird unit, and I just bought a new Lakemaster chip to run in it. I had been using the Navioics chip before and had not had a problem with it loading the charts,. But using the Lakemaster chip, it sometimes takes 1 minute for it to update the chart. The screen will go white and then in up to a minute or soo, it will finally put the chart page up. I do not have the latest update loaded on my 11987c, for fear of having trouble with it. I am thinking the last update was 2 updates back.
Do any of you have this problem with Lakemaster chips? I really like the chart, and some of the features it has that Navionics don't.

  Any help would be appreciated.

I got the Lakemaster chip for my 999 and it is terrific.  I haven't noticed any delays in loading.  I love the ability to set the depth to match our lake water levels here in North Texas.

Keep in mind that what works well on one unit may work different on another. The operating code inside each unit is different. The 1197 is an older product and not being attended as with the new ones so you could have some issue with the map working good. We need to hear from other 1197 users who are using the lakemaster chip.  I have been looking into a map for our 1197 but have been holding off until we see s good report on the usage and compatibility.

I use the Lakemaster South V2 on my 1197...

It is also somewhat slower operating chart views than my Navionics East E6 (I think)...

Even tho the 1197 is a dual processor unit...I think it struggles with the added data in these newer Lakemaster cards...

I use the Lakemaster card for times I'm slow trolling or searchin very slow...because of the slow map update in the 1197...

I think you could probably turn off the "Depth Highlight" and "Shallow water highlight" and get the map to update a little quicker...(nut that kind of defeats the purpose of the features in the map card)...

That might help the speed of his older 1197 when it's trying or struggling to use the Lake Master Chips.

One needs to remember that the 1197's cpu was not designed with the Lakemaster Chips in mind. Which is probably why Humminbird came out with newer Humminbird Units with faster CPU's to handle the new Lakemaster Chips.

The lakemaster chips hold more data and it takes more CPU or processor power to load and work with these larger data files.

I'd be willing to bet good money that if you were to purchase a new Onix unit it would easily handle the Lakemaster Chip Data and have a much faster screen refresh rate.

If you can't afford to buy a new unit then why don't you download and  load up the newest Humminbird Software (firmware) for your particular unit?  does anyone know a web site other than Humminbird that may have the older copies of the 1197 firmware updates online somewhere?

Ummm… this web site has some of the older versions of 1197c Si softare:

A large number of waypoints, routes and tracks will also cause the maps to update at a slower rate as well.
