Title: Software updates and backing up original software?
Post by: mike fish on July 22, 2016, 02:03:58 AM
I need a refresher on Software updates.
First save waypoints to SD card, Restore defaults, power off, turn on, insert SD card with update, follow screen prompts, power off, turn on , restore defaults.  What am I missing??

Also can I back up or save original software or how do I go back if needed?

This will be for a 899SI. I believe 7.68 is most current?

Thanks

*Save waypoints to SD Card ...(only necessary for OCD types like me) ...
*Confirm waypoint backup in HBPC ...(only necessary for OCD types like me) ...
*Format Nav directories ...(only necessary for OCD types like me) ...
*Restore Defaults ...
*Insert SD Card with update .bin file ...
*Answer Yes and then No ...
*Wait for unit to reboot itself ...(will boot into Normal if xducer is attached) ...
*Remove SD Card ...
*Restore Defaults ...

Unfortunately we can't back up current software from the unit ...

You can get the version that came on your unit from HB and save it on your PC ...

Any updates available in your HB account can be saved on your PC ...

Perfet, Thanks

Not sure what or how to do Format Nav Directories?

1st guarantee that your Waypoints are safe by opening them in HBPC ...

There's nothing worse than "thinking" you performed a Nav data export, then format Nav directories, and then find out something went wrong with the export ... BYE BYE Waypoints ...

*Press "Menu" twice to get into the Main Menu System ...
*Cursor over to the Setup tab ...
*Cursor down to Format Nav directories ...
*Cursor right to activate ...
*Confirm the green "Are you sure" popup ...

This wipes the internal Nav data library clean ...

A few more questions.  Can you do update without Transducer hooked up?
Also once you put update on SD card can you update multiple units? Example: Update Dash 999, then go to bow 999 update, then update my 798 too? Or do you have to upload a separate version for each unit on separate SD cards?
Thanks

The software is different for each model.

You don't need to have a transducer connected....You may have to go to forced simulator mode.

Yep that's right. I was just thinking ahead too fast on how I could get these all done quickly. 899, 999 and 999 KVD should be the same though? I think? I'll have to go to Humminbird account and check.  thanks

Edit: yes it seems to be looking at list.

The 2 999's will be the same, but the 899 will be different.

The 800 series takes a different .bin file download than the 900 series (even tho the number may be the same) ...

The unit will not recognize a .bin file that is not designed specifically for that series unit ...

Well dog gone it !! I thought since it was in the same 7.65 update it was the same software, so that's what Bob meant. Okay I'll see what I can do tomorrow to get the right one.  Thanks again guys.
