Title: how water proof is the 898c?

i want one for my kayak but its amatter of time before it gets fully covered in water. Also are the transducers teh sam esize as the pirhanamax series?

The unit is protected for a short period of time mainly for surface rain or moisture.
If you do submerge it deeply or for a substantial amount of time you may be able to keep it from harm.
You might consider building a waterproof mount to enclose your unit..
Also the door to the mmc cards (for those units that have mmc) is only slightly waterproof..

The 1198c Si Combo unit meets the IPX7 waterproof standard.
If you do not re-install the card reader door than it certainly can leak.

The 1198 is overkill even 4 me. It needs 2 be splash,rain and so on

Sorry, meant 898c Si and all of the Humminbird units (300, 500, 700, 800, 900 and 1100 series units) are all IPX7 rated.

Perfect how would it go in 3ft of water? Now do u know were I can find decent sonar pics of the bottom (not side) as I read can do a bottom sonar pic. What angle down is it in sonar 60 or 90? Also what's the point of going a di unit then (which there are only a few)

Also my piraniamax 210 on the misses Kayak won't read temp. It used to on my yak and the transducer has that metal probe on it. Do it's the right transducer, depth is fine as is structure just no temp.

I think these units are designed to handle hard rains and occasional wave splashes of water.  They are probably certified as water resistant.

I also think if you totally submerge any of the units in water for any length of time, it will completely destroy them.

I think the "T" in the transducer part number means it has the temp probe...

I know it has temp. But it's just not displaying on screen. It was working great when it was on my yak.

Yea there ip67 submersible at 1m for limited periods of time perfect :)

I wouldnt worry about light rain or occasional splashes, BUT, for me I keep mine out of the path of spray as much as possible...No need to take a chance
