Helix 10 mega SI

Just installed my new sounder. Went for a test run yesterday. Left all settings at factory. Based on all the screen shots on the internet I've looked at I'm pretty happy with it. One concern though: the right side side imaging looks different from the left. On the right side there is a double line where the water column meets the bottom and the water column has a funny haze to it. Any ideas?

If the haze were on both sides equally I would offer that it's a thermocline or a lot of particulate in the water  ...

Haze only on 1 side might lend to an xducer problem  ...

A few things to try  ...

*Update to latest software in your HB account  ...
*Restore Defaults  ...
*Temporarily mount the xducer to a pole and stick it way down in the water and test if the issue goes away  ...
*Test your head unit on a different xducer  ... Or another head unit on your xducer  ...

I guess the double line marks the closer limit for a null sector. Next to the 'line' there is a narrow dark area that I think is caused by a null sector. I have no practical experience from the mega-systems, but I have seen this kind of phenomenon many times with other SI-units and SI-transducers. The dark bands use to be narrow and extra dark when the null sector points to the seabed almost directly below the transducer and when the seabed leans a lot, like in the direction of the beach.

A null is a direction in the beam pattern in which no sound is transmitted. One or more nulls will appear in the beam pattern in almost any sidescan transducer. The higher the frequency, the more nulls.

If the surface water has something in it that can cause haze and if the upper part of your left beam is blocked by something, that might explain the absence of haze in the left view.
