999hdsi and lowrance hdi5
« on: April 28, 2015, 01:35:24 PM »
hello everyone I have a 999hd si mounted on the transom of my bass tracker. I recently added a lowrance hdi5 to my trolling motor for the bow. Every once in a while my hummingbird goes out of wack and reeds 400+ feet with stuff all over the screen. I don't know if I am cross talking sonar on the units or what. Did this happen to anyone and is there a way to set up both units so they don't cross talk, if that is infact what you think is happening?
Thanks Gio

Gio,
I am assuming that the other unit is using 200kHz as well?  You should be able to check this yourself.  If so, you are probably getting some sonar cross-talk (interference).  Try turning on and up the Noise Filter menu on your 999 unit and see if that helps.

I can set the other unit to anything but yes I think it is on 200khz. Should I change that frequency or just try to turn up the noise filter ?

I would change the frequency if you can.  Otherwise the Noise Filter may be filtering out some of the weaker sonar signals that you want to see on your 999 unit.

I have no idea what frequencies the Lowrance unit is capable of.
You are not getting cross-talk because of the brand(s) of sonar units you are using.  You are getting cross-talk because you have more than one sonar unit transmitting and receiving sonar at the same frequency as another sonar unit and the sonar beams are overlapping.

Depending on how you are using your 2D sonar I might set it to only use the 200kHz frequency.
