Wire seal size for 798ci Si FF?
« on: February 04, 2013, 01:01:54 PM »
Hi All, new here.

Last year i installed a 798xi Si FF unit on my Hobie Outback Kayak (Yeah, A Kayak). I am doing some winter cleaning of the yack and wanted to install a nice clean Wire seal for the wires coming out of the yack and into the unit. Does anyone know what size Wire seal I would need? Thanks!

What part are you trying to seal? The holes where the wires feed through into the mount? I think that is 1inch ..other than that, I'm not sure what you're trying to seal.

Trying to seal the 2 wires that go to the unit from the hull of my kayak. Right now i drilled a hole in the kayak big enough to fit the heads of the cables that goes to the unit and simply gooped the hole. So pretty much i need the seal to be big enough for the 2 cable heads so it can fit properly, just not sure what size to get.

Here is a picture of what needs to be sealed, pretty much the 2 wires coming out of the yack. The kicker is the heads of the wires that goes to the unit needs to be able to fit through the wire seal. I am currrently looking into the Anchor brand liquid tight wire seal in 3/4 inch. I wonder if that will work or should i said i wonder if the head of the cables will be able to be run through it?

I think you're talking about a rubber grommet.
Something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Rig-Rite-Manufacturing-610-Rigging/dp/B002IV6ORW/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1360075658&sr=8-23&keywords=rubber+grommet

It looks to me like you've already got the hole sealed.
You may already be done.

I can certainly work as well. I just figured the wire seal which ive seen installed on other kayaks before may be a bit tighter of a seal than a grommet. But that works also assuming the head of the cable can fit in the grommet hole?
