Title: What to do with the 997?
Post by: promapper on May 09, 2013, 09:41:55 PM
I recently bought and installed the 998 which left me with a 997 and no idea what I could do with it.  I paid to much to sell it as the used market seems to be about $500.00.

I am looking for ideas on a configuration using both 997SI, 998SI and 596 DI.

one thought was use the 596 for high speed while the SI transducers are protected by being slightly above the water at high speed,  the 997 for 455khz and the 998 for 800khz???  The 596 boots very fast so turning it off and on to avoid interference is not a problem.

If one unit is at 455khz and the other at 800 will there be interference?

or just use the 997 for navigation???

If this were your system how would you configure it?  I also have the AS360, I-Pilot Link and interlink
I would welcome input from those on here with more sonar and system knowledge than I.

Thanks

Probably just use the 997 for navigation.  You cannot connect it to either unit and even if you ran it at 455kHz it would still cause 2D sonar interference as it would still be transmitting at 200kHz.  It would be handy as a back-up for the 998 in case you are out on the water and the sonar in it quits.

sounds like a plan.  Thanks for confirming the interference issues.
