999 Software Update Problem
« on: May 01, 2014, 08:48:02 AM »
I just installed a 999 and a 859 in my boat. Have all the cables run and powered on both units and played around with them. Restored default settings and was going to update each unit. The 859 had no problems and updated just fine. The 999 seemed to update alright but when it restarted it hung up on the screen with the humminbird logo. Waited ten minutes and nothing ever happened. I finally had to just pull the power cable to get it to shut off.

Now it starts up and then shuts down. It will do it over and over again if I let it do it. Any ideas?

I'm guessing i will have to send in the unit?

Thanks.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums sdpackfan.

I would try removing any memory or map cards from the unit and test it on the 859’s connections first.  Disconnect any Ethernet connections as well.  If still no joy I would call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks about it.

Thanks Greg.

I tried that and called Humminbird Customer Service.  They said to send it in.  Just got back from the post office.  Hopefully it will be a quick turn around.  I should have known better than to do this a couple days before a two day tournament!

I have a new 999ci HD SI and got a notification of software upgrade to 7.020.  I have I Pilot Link also.  I have been reading about problems with this software.  Is there a problem with it?  When I go to Humminbird .com and My Equipment page, I don't see where you can click on the software update 7.020.

Humminbird_Greg.....Is the 7.020 software safe to install?? I have a new 999ci HD SI unit and I don't want to end up sending it back.  Fishing season is FINALLY starting in Wisconsin. I have 6.8 software installed from factory.

Thanks for any info.

As far as I know it is grayfox.
Like all new software versions or other products we have; we try and run down the root cause of any failures just to be sure though.

Unless you just need the changes made with the 7.020 software, I would wait until after the fishing slows down just in case.

I was updating to 6.90 the new one wasn't out at that point.  I got it back on Tuesday from Humminbird.  I'm not sure what was wrong on the paper in the box it just mentioned software and boot problem.  I do know I won't be updating software a couple of days before a tournament again.

What did the 7.020 update add to the 899?  Or is there an online location that I can read about it.  I sure wish HB would do a software update that allows the widescreen models to not have so much of the LH screen getting dedicated to displaying number readouts.

rickwalley,
When you go to your “My Humminbird” account and download the software, there should be some release notes that state what was changed.  You can also sometimes search the Humminbird FAQ page with the software version and get the information:

General Fixes
•   Removes NMEA0183 functionality when i-Pilot Link is connected
•   Corrects issues caused when user follows the contour while recording an iTrack and AutoPilot is turned on.
•   Corrects issue where iTracks were not being deleted from all units on the network
•   Corrects POS mode allowing Chart/Side Combo view to now be seen

New Features
•   Adds support for AutoChart PC and Zeroline SD cards*
•   Adds sonar sharing features where the 999ci HD SI transducer on the network can be shared with a non SI  (X)X59ci HD (2014) product through the Network Source Set Up Adv. tab.   It also allows SI units to subscribe to dedicated DI.  Both units must have software version 6.900 or higher.  This software release for other 2014 products will be staggered between March 31 and mid May 2014.

Approximate release schedule of other models:
1159ci HD XD, 959ci HD XD, 859ci HD XD - June 24

Model specific changes
Added Navionics Platinum+ compatibility to the 899ci HD SI.  This feature will also be added to the 859ci HD DI, 859ci HD and 859ci HD XD based on above release schedule.
*This feature will be available on earlier HD versions of the 800, 900 and 1100 Series products in July 2014.

Thanks Greg for the info, as always.

Still nothing planned in a software update that keeps so much of the screen being taken up by # readouts?  Seems like such an easy update to offer so many of their graph owners?  I know it is one of the biggest comments people have had over the years.  Honestly, it's one of the things I'm struggling with my next graph purchase being a HB.  Please pass on the wish to the people in your offices higher up the ladder that decide what does or doesn't go into software updates.

Thanks ahead of time, as usual !!!!

It really isn’t that easy rickwalley or so I’ve been told.
In the meantime have you tried setting the SI Readouts menu to “Off”?

Erocks4u, I have two 999 units that I registered but don't see how to download the 7.020 update. Attached is a picture of my "MY Equipment" page. Any ideas would be helpful.
