What's the most accurate GPS module available for the 1197?
« on: October 13, 2012, 08:55:18 PM »
I know there are 3 or 4 models out there.
I'm looking for the fastest and most accurate.

Thanks in advance.

I cant speak to the yet to be released stuff but of the current the discontinued AS_GRHA was the most accurate. why it was discontinued who knows. lack of interest/sales i read somewhere.

Yep, lack of sales was the reason I heard for the GRHA.
The AS-GR50 is the fastest most accurate GPS Receiver for the 1197c Si units right now.
I don’t have any specs on the newer GPS Receivers.

It  is not only the GPS receivers but the internal programming of the unit coupled with the satelites and their "talk" capabilities. Fewer satelites and or fewer receiver components will affect position determination, update and display.
With HB products I suspect that things like sonar and mapping can take away from the processor in its timings to service modules such as GPS.
We have to rememer that these things are computers and operate just like them.
Slow processor speeds, slow bus speeds or anything that slows the process (instruction execution) will affect the total operation.
I am guessing that sonar may take precedence over GPS (to a degree)
I have not tried to use just the GPS and no sonar..

So Greg,
What is supposed to be the most accurate, when comparing
the GRHA to the AS-GR50?

The GRHA is more accurate.
Our testing showed a CEP (50%) rating of 4.92 feet for the GR50 and 2.95 feet for the GRHA.  The 95% readings were 13.12 feet for the GR50 and 9.51 feet for the GRHA.
