Yet another transducer question.
« on: December 28, 2014, 02:12:47 PM »
Just purchased a 858c HD DI for the bow.  Is the transducer that came with the unit okay for trolling motor mount as far as frequencies go.  Most of my fishing is 50' or under.  My understanding of transducers is about as good as my understanding of electricity.  After a point, I just don't get it.
I know the optional transducer has a 83kz setting. I don't understand the benefit or drawbacks.

the trolling motor puck is what you need to prevent interference from the trolling motor. It has shielding where the transom mount it comes with does not. Whichever transducer you decide on make sure it say TM somewhere in the model #. Bob

XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T

*  83kHz 60°   - 200kHz 20° "cone shaped" 2d beams
*455kHz 75° -   800kHz 45° "fan shaped" DI beams
----------
XTM 9 DI 25 T

*455kHz 16° -   200kHz 25° "cone shaped" 2d beams
*455kHz 75° -   800kHz 45° "fan shaped" DI beams

Both are trolling motor style that attach with hose clamps ...
Both have extra shielding to help prevent RF interference ...

The wider "cone shaped" 2d beams of the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T will cover more area under the xducer ...
