No one has replied so I'll give you my $.02 and that is probably about what it's worth.  First, as a former saltwater fisherman who had a Furuno LCD bottom machine I'll say that Furuno is about as good as it gets for "bottom" and fish displays in saltwater.  How good the Humminbird will display in saltwater I just can't say but it is very good in the shallower water bass fishermen deal with.

Now, as to high speed display, I think it will display as fast as your transducer installation allows.  Bear in mind that the xducer for si is somewhat larger than for just sonar alone so I think it will be a bit more difficult to install for high speed.  Some of the other guys on here are divers who probably have experience closer to what you want to know than I do.  I use mine strictly for si and for sonar while fishing and have another unit for high speed running.  I hope this is some help and maybe it will at least trigger some discussion.  In an ideal world you would have both, one sonar for higher speeds and si for structure location and to see the shape and size of the structure.  Also, the coming bottom scan should be ideal for seeing just what you are fishing if you bottom fish, I would love to have had that when I fished for snapper and grouper.

Answer to your question.
I have the 1197 si.
Originally installed by marine service. Installed incorrectly. 2d worked fine at si imaging speeds and high speeds, but the right side si was absent.
I reinstalled, si left and right fine, 2d fine. All at speeds less than 5 mph.
Lost 2d at speeds in excess of 9 mph.
Conclusion. There is a 'sweet' spot for both 2d and si. I live in the ice country. I am not able to test the unit for both quite yet. As I was told for 2d performance the ducer must be in the water. The the ducer is in contact just above water line the 2d is a no go. I would prefer to by aluminum putty and several stainless steel 5/32 hexs and touch up paint rather than shell out 300 - 500 dollars.
I feel if you pay $3 k for a unit I would prefer it work at both low and high speeds.
I have been told by another person and by hb, to buy another unit for highspeed 2d use. I understand where they are coming from though. The si unit in the high and low speed position will be like a sore thumb. It will be in a precarious position just waiting to break off if I should contact an underwater obstruction. That begs the question - how much for a si ducer?
I have given thought to purchasing another hb 500 series for that purpose. But I would like the 1197 to work at both low and high speeds.

I have a HD transducer mounted so that it will be in the water at all times. I get great readings at speed as long as there is not a lot of waves or wakes from other boats. The attached was shot at 40 MPH
Freedom isnt free, if you want to know the real cost visit a national cemetery or VA Hospital.

I installed my unit myself I took Me three goes to get the transducer right but It works fine at any speed.
I was traveling across one of our local lakes last weekend at 30 mph depth was 260ft and it showed very good bottom contuor I do alot of salt water fishing as well and get the same results.Hope this helps.
