Canadian base maps
« on: April 05, 2011, 07:22:40 PM »
I am new to the board and new to my 898 so please be patient with me.  I have tried to view my base map for Manitoba it goes blank and shows nothing but bald prairie, not good for a province with 100,000 lakes but scroll across into ND maps are there, the U.K. maps are there too.  Am I missing something.

Are you using a map SD card or just the unit as shipped.?
If using a card which card is it?

ok....the base unit maps are very basic and not a lot of detail. And dont cover a lot of territory.  I guess that was to make way for the mappers to sell sd's......

There are not any Canadian Base maps :(
The only option is get a SD card with the Navionics HOTMAPS PREMIUM package for Canada. Unfortunately at the momment there are only two lakes in Manitoba. However to get the lakes you want you can just fill out the Navionics form for the missing lakes and they will provide and update you can download.

Hold on a second.....so it is as easy as filling out a form and Navionics will send you the map or so the update the HOTMAPS package to include the map?

For example.  I have the Hotmaps Premium (inland lakes) and the Gold Maps (great lakes) has an inland lake that mine does not have (it is really dumb the lake is a 100 miles inland, Lake Sparrow) they will update my SD card with the map I need?

Can you provide a link?  If this is the case I have 10 lakes I need oddly enough one of them is the 11th largest in the world

The form I'm talking about is located here: http://www.navionics.com/LakeCatalog_FavoriteLakes.asp
I'm 2 for 3 so far on getting lakes added to the map list. Was missing a few of my favorites. In my situation as soon as the lakes were added I was notified via email and was able to goto the website and plug in my card and push the update to the card. I believe you can only update your card if its NEW and within a year old (free updates for a year). If thats not the case I think you have to pay something like 20 bux to get the updates. I could be wrong on that just what I seem to rememeber based on memory.
