SD card slots

I was wondering if anybody could explain why there are two SD slots in the 997.  from what i can tell only the left slot closest to the screen reads the card.  so why is there two?

No they both will read your card.  If you have a Navionics card inserted in slot 1 and want to record, you would need a seperate SD in the other slot.
