Face plate cover question
« on: December 31, 2015, 04:27:22 PM »
Hello , just had my 1199 SI installed on my boat and noticed the cover plate on the unit doesn't fit all that great , the area that is just above the SD card cover pops out about 2-3 millimeters from the main case on the right just below the go to button and while I can press it in with my finger it will pop out again very easy..should I be concerned since this is a sealed unit? thnx

If you just received the unit I would be inclined to return the unit as defective and request a full refund or another new unit.  As I remember when you send it in Humminbird will return another unit to you, since I have never sent one in for repair I am not sure.

I have an 1197 and an 1198 and continue to be very happy with both of them.  Only problems I have had is cutting a transducer wire on rocks (my bad).

thnx , I have already contacted customer service and received a return authorization number..i tried to post a pic but the file was to large. in a nutshell I just didn't know if was worth the effort if the units were known to have some ill fitting issues that didn't effect the weather seal and the performance. I have been on the lake once due to the flooding here in north ga and I do have one more newbie question...if when running say 50 mph via Gps on the unit will that harm anything in regards to the unit still in SI or DI or any of the screen combos or do I need to make sure the unit is in any mode while going over trolling speed. thnk you and I love this forum and what little bit I have had my bird out was amazing , spots that I have fished for years were revealed to me like I would never have imagined. Happy new year to all of the folks here.

The bezel not fitting correctly could cause an issue with the water seal at the SD Card slot door ...so it's good to let HB take care of it ...

There is no danger in harming the unit or xducer function when the xducer is out of the water ... (altho it may take a few seconds to regain depth and bottom detection after slowing the boat back down) ...

Do you have a fiberglass boat where a "shoot thru" 2d xducer and the AS SIDB Y cable may be able to keep depth readings at plane speed ... ??

Thnx Rickie ,  good advice. my boat is a glass ranger and as long as I cant screw anything up running above 6 to 7 MPH with the unit in what ever mode I think I will just leave the trans mount ..thnk you.
