OK. So I've googled myself into complete confusion about how to connect the 1198 to my Yamaha VMax and have the motor info displayed. The easiest part of this whole equation is the Humminbird parts (AS ETH NMEA2K, 5PS).
I currently have no NMEA network established. This is the first critical failure from what I can tell. Where do I start? I saw a Lowrance NMEA network starter kit online. Would this suffice and/or is it compatible with Humminbird? Didn't see a Humminbird equivalent on the site.
What harness do I need to connect to the motor? This particular motor is not a Command-Link connected unit. This apparently makes a huge difference in what I need. The model is VZ225 from 2008.
Now, it appears that with the NMEA2K, I plug one end into the 1198 ethernet port directly or the 5PS, should I want to expand to other units. The other end goes into the NMEA network (which I need to create).
Any help or practical experience advice is certainly appreciated.
And all of this could have been avoided had the dealer taken my money when I asked them to install the Yamaha multifunction gages. They refused. But that's another story...
