Lack of parts for my 997c
« on: August 21, 2012, 08:57:33 PM »
What is the problem with Hummin Bird. I have a 997c only 2 yrs old paid almost 2 grand with taxes in and it is dead because of the CPU and there are none to be had. Hummin Bird says that they no longer support this product?

Are you kidding me thats a grand a year!! to operate it.

I expected much more :o(

badbosscar, We all would. Try calling Humminbird and see if they will bench test the unit.

Good luck.

So,
You have sent your unit in to Humminbird, and they have determined that the CPU is bad?
And, they don't have any more CPU's for a replacement?

Well,
The 997's came out about 4 years ago.
You've had your unit for 2 years, but it may have set on a shelf or
a warehouse for 2 years.

With cars, by law, they have to have parts available for 10 years.
But, with sonars, I guess it's up to the individual company.
Maybe 3 years is Humminbirds limit to keep parts for models.

It's not good news, but it might be time for you to upgrade.

Who at Humminbird did you talk to?

Did you call the Customer Resource folks at Humminbird in Eufaula, Alabama (U.S.A.) or was this a Canadian service center?

I just spoke with the Service Center Supervisor and he assured me that we can still offer service to most 997c Si units that are sent in.  Sure, at some point in the future (don’t know when that will be) we will not be able to offer service for the 997c Si units but that is not now.

I am from Canada so sending it to the US doesn't work.
I sent it into the west coast service centre and they have been great (Mikes Reel Repair)
In the end Hummin Bird has come through but with a bit of a push from Mikes.
They are sending a 998 powerhead to replace the 997 unit. But just so you know they do not have any more repacement power heads (CPU's) for the 997. Maybe it is just they wont send them to Canada but that is not what they told the service centre.

Beware in buying a new 997 as they are still out there new for sale.

They just tell me that I am not allowed to.I have to send it to a Canadian repair centre. I have no problem with that as they have been great but they can not get the part from the states?

Well now that is strange… we service units from all over the world.  What comes in the door gets serviced and sent back out.

Who is this “they”?

I would bet that we (Humminbird Customer Resource folks) do try and encourage those from other countries to use their ‘local’ service centers, but I do not know that we tell anyone that they are not allowed to send them to us to be fixed.

Well infact the "they" was a customer rep at Humminbird. And I was told that I had to send it to a Canadian repair centre.

Greg,
Maybe the postage to return a unit to Canada is very expensive
for Humminbird, and they discourage taking in units from
there.

I had checked and we will repair units from outside the United States.

We do encourage those outside the States to make use of their local Service Centers but you can still ship it into us.

badbosscar, I don’t suppose you could pm me your name, telephone number and address so that I can get the CRC Supervisor to look up who spoke with you, could you?  I want to make sure that they are telling other Customers the right thing.
