MKR-US2-8
« on: June 25, 2023, 04:55:15 PM »
Hi Everyone, here's the scenario;
So an acquaintance of mine that bought my 1199ciHD_SI last year asked me 2keep an eye out 4a Non-Mega360 & sure enuff i managed 2find him one 4a reasonable price But now, when i look at the connectors, i'm thinking i will need 2get him an MKR-US2-8 Adaptor Cable But would that limit the options to MinnKota TMz only (Not that would be such a bad thing) & what if he wanted to use the unit "stand alone" 4a little while as we search 4a 2nd hand TM more suitable 4his little 14ft tinner - would an AS QDE Cable do the trick here?
Would any1 care 2 elaborate on the available options here in the case?
Ive attached 2pics as per the connectors that came w/this AS360 (what does "AS" even mean anyway?) & a pic of the back of the 1199 in order 2help 2clarify my query.
Thanks,
Sandro

Ok... Just a little update 2my query. With some research, I was able 2figure out that this unit is an AS360 Ultrex that will be in need of an AS EC QDE Cable (for 1199 Ethernet) & as well an AS EC(X-ft) where both ends are Female seeing as the Ethernet Connections of the AS 360 Ultrex has a Male Pin Pattern although I still don't know what "AS" stands for & am assuming, the smaller, 4pin female connector is for a Heading Sensor?
Am I on the right track? Thanks Again.

Interestingly I donít even know what AS stands for myself  ...

Original 360 has 2 connectors  ...

The left connector in your pic is the power cable  ... Humminbird shows this is the cable for the AS 360 SSI but I recommend calling Humminbird to verify for sure  ...
https://humminbird.johnsonoutdoors.com/us/shop/accessories/cables/pc-2-power-cable-ion-sm1000-sm2000-sm3000-360-ssi

The right connector in your pic is the Ethernet connection (male of course)   ... it must be connected to a Humminbird Ethernet cable (length of your need) (female both ends)  ...
https://humminbird.johnsonoutdoors.com/us/shop/accessories/cables?f%5B0%5D=field_product%253Afield_hbcabletype%3A27016

Then the AS EC QDE must be connected to the other end of the Ethernet cable  ... (male metal one end/ plastic hourglass shaped the other end to plug into the Humminbird unit)  ...

There are no transducer connections with AS 360 SSI -  so the MKR adapter or any AS EC (transducer extension cable) are not needed  ...

Hello Sir, now I know re: the power cable that U made mention 2contact H_B support But I will ask anyway.
I'm not quite certain how 2word this one 2B honest so here goes;
As per the 4pin Female Power Cable of the AS360 Ultrex. What does that connect that to exactly? My guess is the TM & provided that T.M (guessing Minn Kota) even possess the matching outlet (as Male)? What IF we find a good 2nd hand TM of different make/model & more importantly How might one toy around w/it in the meantime? Would there be an adaptor for that as well in order 2avoud having 2cut/expose the wires?
Thanks, Sandro
PS-after taking a 2nd look at the Power Cable I now realize Itz a 3-pin Female (the 4th slot is a "locator") =  1Pos, 1Neg & 1Ground? Correct?

AS 360 SSI does not connect to the TM (except for the mounting bracket)  ...

AS 360 SSI only connects to a 12v power source (preferable switched) and Ethernet  ...

Because the AS 360 SSI Ethernet connection is a male metal end, it must be connected to a Humminbird Ethernet cable (lengths available from 5-30ft)  ... there are no other Humminbird (or Minn Kota) cable Ethernet products that have female metal ends  ...

Then the chosen length Ethernet cable can be connected to an AS EC QDE (adapter cable for Humminbird head units), the AS ETH 5XPG Ethernet switch, or direct to ONIX/SOLIX/ION  ...

Please clarify  ...

Is the cable on the left in your original pic above emanating from the AS 360 SSI composite shaft  ... or is it just a pigtail cable that came with the 360  ... ??

This is how it came? what do you mean when you say "pigtail cable" & i will assume that SSI means "Standard" Side Imaging as per Non-Mega?
So i took another pic 2help clarify.
Now i think itz Safe 2assume that the 1 cable is an Ethernet cable so let's Zero in on what is believed 2B the "Power Cable" seeing as it has 3 holes & a locator slot in the plastic molding of the connector.
Would we Not consider this to be 1 Positive, 1 Negative and 1 Ground?
To Summarize, I'm basically asking what we will need 2do in order 2power the unit & would there be an adaptor 4this if the outlet is proprietary 2an Ultrex in order 2avoid splicing the cable?
Lastly, just by the way U worded that last question leads me 2believe that something may have been modified here?
Is this Not what an Ultrex AS 360 is supposed to look like as there are only 2 cables : 1 Ethernet and 1 Power - No?
Thanks, Sandro
ps - i am "assuming" this unit is an Ultrex as per the "V-Shaped" Mounting System

The reason I questioned if the cable was a pigtail is because I canít remember if the original 360 power cable connector was male or female (I sold mine a couple of years ago) Ö

It seems from your latest pix that the power cable is a male connector  ... (I think the prongs are positive, negative, and bare wire drain (but you need the female pigtail to connect to 12v power)  ...

Another reason for my questions is the picture on the Humminbird website of the PC-2 power cable pigtail for the AS 360 SSI looks to be also male (and why I recommended calling Humminbird to verify this power cable pigtail will work)  ...

https://humminbird.johnsonoutdoors.com/us/shop/accessories/cables/pc-2-power-cable-ion-sm1000-sm2000-sm3000-360-ssi

Call Humminbird to verify  ... 1-800-633-1468

And ask them if the website picture of the 360 PS-2 power cable pigtail is wrong  ... or if the PS-2 power does not actually work with original 360 Ö because it looks like a 2 prong male connector   ... and you need a 3 prong female pigtail cable  ...

Thank You Master Rickie,
Sorry if my pics are a tad hazy But that last sentence threw me off a tad (well, other than calling H_B Support of course.
My Power Cable (call it mine 4now anyway seeing as itz in my possession at present) is a 3 Prong "Female" so why would I be in need of a Female adaptor again?
Would I Not be on the lookout 4a Male Adaptor?
Lastly, I found H_B Service 2B quite dependent on the individual responding when it comes to 2nd hand / discontinued items & hence my hesitation But I will seek their counsel soon enuff.
Thanks Again,
Sandro

I still recommend calling Humminbird and telling them you have an original 360 Ultrex but it didnít come with a pigtail power cable  ...

Humminbird will ask sure you get the correct pigtail  ... 1-800-633-1468

Ok, so for any1 following this thread & in a similar quandary. The old part# in order 2yield power 2an AS360SSI is #490431-1 (discontinued) & furthermore the new power adaptor cable for Mega360 called "Mega360PC" #720118-1 will work as well as per Humminbird Service Rep.
Cheers ;)

sir,

Your friend cheaped out and bought an obsolete 1199 which has been discontinued for at least 10 years. Tell your friend to spend some of his dollars and get a current Humminbird product so you won't be going through all of this cord crap!  You are busting your butt to solve his problem so why are you involved?

The 1199 is the only unit remaining that can still run a Quad Beam (which is arguably the Best 2D Transducer ever created) 2nd of All, if an 1199 served Rob Van Damme quite well 4the better part of 10yrs as a BassMasters Champion, who are U 2 question? Lastly, I don't judge my friends by the amount of Toys they have & by comparison in a lb per lb sorta way, a 5inch 798ciHD_SI will absolutely Crush ANY Helix5 on the market 2day & even some of the Helix7 as well. So U see Sir, I too believe that the Real Trick is by way of "getting the Most out of Ur Gear" & I personally find merit in keeping old things alive & imo an 1199 can still find a place on just about any1z boat (provided they own a Quad Beam of course). As per myself, I'm the proud owner of an ONIX_10CXI_SI & see NO Reason 2spend Thousands on Electronics 4a "pastime" & with Special Thanks to "Master" Rickie & this Forum - I can do just that (especially seeing as I myself started out w/a 598ciHD_SI just a few years ago).
To Summarize, Money doesn't put Fish in the boat, But Persistence, Perseverance & Efficiency will get the Job Done Time & Time Again - Even w/a damn Paper Map & a Little Tinner w/a 9.9hp on the back as we used 2do over 25yrs ago.
I Hope This Answers Ur Question(s) Sir & Thank U 4Ur Concern(s). Swann

I still use my 2009 model 1197 mainly for maps and Sonar experimenting  ...

I have a backup 1198 when the 1197 finally dies  ...
